 Post subject: Futura

I recently liberated an Electra Futura from a pawn shop for the sum of $50. There were only 3 strings on it, it had a broken wire in the control cavity, and it was filthy. I cleaned it up, resoldered the wire, and restrung it and it has to be one of ny favorite guitars. It is the Pearl White (beautiful) finish.

Can anyone provide some more info on this axe and give an estimate of its value?

Thanks

You done real good for 50 bones.
I think one in good condition could bring in at least 200 bills.

Do you see a serial number behind the head or somewhere?
That could help ID the year.

Do you have pics?

Notice one has no bottom horn in the pics below
and a bridge difference.

what he said!

The red and white futuras had bodies mirror image of each other. Here's more pics of mine:

The Futura, like the Lady, Dynasty, and Dimension IV, are in most respects (other than the body) much the same as Electra Phoenix (later Westone Spectrum) guitars. The Futura and Lady, with their twin MMK humbuckers and 4-knob controls with pull-switch pots for phase reverse and coil tap, are much like a Phoenix X165 or Spectrum ST.

You'd have to research ebay to get typical prices, but I see them in good condition go for 150-225$ usually. Ironic, because they're really a far better guitar that the price woudl suggest.

I finally got some pics. I've never posted pics before, so there is a very good chance I'll screw it up. Bear with me, and here goes.

Yes,, 1983. It cleaned up very well. With exception of the Rickenbacker, this is my new favorite axe. My students think it's the coolest thing ever, and my 11 year old son can't wait until he grows out of his 3/4 size strat so he can play this one.

83's are sweet, they have real mojo. The radical shape of the Futura is cool, but distracting from the fact that it's a really good guitar! Also makes good wall candy- it's good for your students to see it, even better when they hear it. You just can't get better pickups than those MMK45's.

Sounds like your son has good taste already!
