I would really really like to get $1200 for it. I want to start a business and need that amount to be able to buy the vending machines from another guy. But I am open to trades. I figure I might be able to trade it for something else that I can then sell or trade again until I get where I need to be.

I'll not be one to tell you it isn't worth every penny of $1200, because IMHO, it is. But I'm sorry to say I don't think you'll be able to get that much for it. I'm sure there are several people even on this forum (myself included) who'd love to give you that much for it, but simply can't afford it. My advice: DON'T SELL IT ON E-BAY!!!! If you want the full value of that guitar, make the circuit. Go to clubs with classy players. Let the local string musician have a go at it. An observer blind to brand name who hears a Jazz player on that guitar (and then finds out it is for sale) just might make you an offer you can't refuse. That's really the only way you could obtain it's full value. I've seen a concert-goer beg to buy a x420VS for $3500 (an offer he promptly turned down ) off of a soft rock player I'm close with. You just have to be willing to do what it takes to advertise. Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Bring the guitar where there is a market for it. Or else, keep it and appreciate it.

This is some of the best advice I have seen on this Forum in regard to keeping the Electra banner held high;

Sure - if one is in a situation where money is tight - then you are probably going to sell it;

There is a chance that the next owner may have a different perspective about SLM Electras and this axe will just fade away into oblivion;

Those of us who have any appreciation for the SLM Electra brand will be voting for you to keep it;

I for one will always keep both Electras X340 and X330 that I was lucky enough to buy new back in the late 70's;

They still play great and I will be using them playing with the band this week;

Naturally you have to make the decision that is best for you;

I actually sold all of my equipment for a job move in 1972;

Then I bought more later when I thought I could afford it;

I would venture to say that if you do sell you will be looking for another one later ............

It's just that it seems that as more time goes by that quality versions of these axes seem to be harder and harder to find.

I would sell it for $800 if I could sell it today. That is a good idea about taking it around to some clubs. I might wind up doing that if it will help me sell it. I am never going to play it again. I just dont have the desire. When i came back from Iraq I just didnt have the desire to ever play again. I wasnt that good anyway, LOL.

- and I would venture to say that RCS is exactly correct. If you have any inkling that yourself or one of your kin might ever be a musician, KEEP IT! They may become virtually unattainable in the not-so-distant future. Not only that, but that particular guitar will handle all manner of rock, jazz, punk, emo and country WELL. Considering it was more or less free, it has an infinite bang for it's buck.

If I had the 800 to give you I most certainly would. Best of luck to you! I certainly hope you can find someone who both loves the guitar and is willing to give you the money you need.

Hopefully someone who appreciates the brand will purchase and cherish it.

I sold my electra today. Not as much as I would have liked, but defenitly going to someone who will appreciaite it, so I feel good about that. Good for me, good for him. He has a band and other guitars so its going to a good home.

Hi I bought the x810 from Shawn and I need to know where I can get the correct tail peace and tune-o-matic bridge from. I bought this because I had one when my kids were young and wanted to replace something from the past. This is turning in to a project. Shawn is a nice person but the guitar is not the shape the pictures showed and is in trouble is some areas. I'm sure it was beyond his knowledge of guitars. Any help on this would be great. I'm bringing it to a good Guitar builder to address some of the issues. This is going to cost me ouch.. lol

What exactly is the problem?

REplacing the tailpiece should be easy, that's a standard tune-o-matic and an aftermarket replacement should fit... unless it's some oddball width. Measure the posts center to center and let us know- Allparts I believe has detailed specs posted on their site. If it turns out to be an odd width, we can measure and see if one of us has a match in our spare parts.

You guys did a deal and you both I think did OK- and you're both gracious about moving forward in a positive spirit. As with my Howard, these guitars are rare enough that it's hard to assign a value- we all are lucky to get to be around them. That said, it would be nice if you can find some solutions that don't cost you a lot. Certainly everything to do with setup- bridge, stringing, intonation, action, truss rod, etc- you can do all that, it's fun. Is there damage beyond that?

There is so much information online on guitar repair- some of us do this for fun! We can probably either find answers for you or point to where you can, and then if you decide to have someone else do the work, you'll know what it's about.
