Congrats Lars, ah June of 1983 was a good 'year'. My wide flame is just between those two, has MMK45's in it, have you pulled the pickups to see what they are yet? (watch out for feedback! but I bet you'll like the way they sound, and how versatile the electronics are) What do you think of those tuners? I think they are 18:1 ratio, I've been impressed at the smoothness from those no-name tuning machines.

How do you like the single coil tones? I find myself using the single coils more and more lately, and like the ability to flick between them in a song (see related topic with sound clip: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3869).

So a couple months since Art listed it, were you on the fence about getting another one? We need details! I'm not sure what it is about these guitars that encourages people to get multiples.. but it's becoming common to see them in a group! Mine were all made within the same two months, so they all seem very similar (to me) as far as fit and finish (nice), and I'd be hard pressed to pick one out in a 'blind' listening test, the Bookmatched Body example weighs a bit more I've found, so I don't play it as often (as I should).

Are the backplates on your modified 935 painted? I don't remember seeing that before. Well, the new one looks uber clean man, cleaner than any of mine, congrats! Now you've got (2) X935cs's, a Vulcan and an Outlaw... would you just quit and save some for the rest of us!! Cheers, Mike.

Mike,

Yes, I'm very happy with "Art's" Endorser. I've been searching for a clean original version for quite some time and now that search is over (thank goodness). I'm still in the market for a "trans black" version and hoping to find one soon. I want one with the same headstock graphics as the X935 CS (i.e. not the peace logo). Also it has to be clean and original. So that quest continues.

Regarding "Art's" guitar and the delay from his posting it "for sale" and the purchase. He was nice enough to wait until I was ready to buy. My wife has been a saint with my guitar collecting and I had to time it right or she would have put the brakes on yet another instrument in the house ("we've got nowhere to put 'em" etc. etc.). So that's why there was a delay.

She plays wonderfully. I do love single coils too. Your playing on the linked post above is tastey as hell good job.

Yes the back plates on the Modified ProEndorser are painted black so they actually might be the original ones? I'm not sure though.

As far as what pickups are in the guitar I have no idea. I assume they are stock? Did the factory put in different pickups? How do you tell?

As I mentioned in a previous post viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3753 this guitar (the X935 CS) really was my first good guitar so I was excited to get her back so to speak. I promise never to sell or trade her or her sibbling. As the song goes....."you don't know what you got till it's gone".

Lars

Hello Lars, maybe some kind of mild nail polish remover will take that paint off with out scarring the gold anodization beneath it on those back control covers, just a thought.

My wide flame has MMK45's, the Blackburst and thin flame have MMK53's (go figure). I have yet to determine if these were ordered that way, flavor of the month or what. (Does anybody know about pickup options from Electra? Also, what the difference between the two pickups are?) The next audio clip I'm going to post will be a very non-scientific A/B of a 45 and a 53 guitar, and see if anyone can tell the difference! To my (very abused) ears, they sound pretty similar. One would think that the 53's probably have more windings and are more powerful, but by the time I pick up a 2nd guitar I can't really tell much difference, that's why I want to record them both so that I can just sit back and listen to the passages one after the other and try to tell.

If you take the strings off and pull either of the pickups out, you will see on the bottom of the pickup:

'MMK' will be stamped into the metal, and either 45 or 53 will be stamped in ink somewhere. I think I read somewhere on here that the neck pickup has three conductors and the Bridge pickup has four (for phase), but maybe someone else can verify that... personally I've never yanked out the all the wiring in the cramped control cavity to substantiate that. In any event, I think you got a real beauty there, enjoy brother, Mike.
