Hey, I bought this sight unseen from my friends shop (the one that co-donated the guitar for the electra fest this year). He said what he had and that it was in good shape. I asked a few questions then bought it. I picked it up a good while later. It really is nice. Probably early to mid 70s, has the old logo and Maxxon pickups (same as Ibanez used as I recall). I setup most of my guitars and did a quick job on this one, and it did pretty well. I have a friend that is fanatical about guitar nuts put a real bone nut on it. I set it up and set the intonation. The original knobs had all the plating peeled off so these are from another tele. Other than that - it is STOCK - even has teh old case. It is a NICE instrument. I wish they put better keys on these back then, I never liked the covered styles (on any make, including fender back then). But if I had this one by the fest this year, I might have given Champamp (Brad) a run for his money on the cleanest guitar.

Oh yeah, the bass from the fest is back together too. You can't even tell the fingerboard repair. I fixed a few dings on it too.

Very nice. I have the same model and I love it. I think yours is the fist one I've seen with the cover over the bridge. I'm sure you have saw it, but I think this ad's pretty cool that has the teles in it. On sale for $136.00.

From what I looked up about mine, its a copy of a 72' Slim Line Natural Maple. Its way lighter than my MPC ! Mine has the case too but its pretty worn.

That is amazing even if it is a dealer cost special. All that and a free calculator too! Are you sure it was early 70s because calculators were expensive even into the later 70s? Anyhow, that IS it. I paid a LOT more for sure. More than I have for many MPCs just because it was nice and in such good shape. Well, I took my buddies word that it was nice and he was right.

Did the bone nut make a big difference and do you think a graph tech nut would sound as good on the tele?

For some reason I keep thinking Electra ran them in 75'. I dont know how long they used the old script logo. The ad says discontinued models. They didnt show up in the 77' Electra catalog. No telling how long they hung in the stores before this sale, so it could be from early 80's.

The bone nut is nice, and very nicely done. It looks original but is better. I like graphtech too but the choice to go with bone was because my bud likes to work with it, the cosmetic reasons (looks normal there), and it is fine quality. If might have done graphtech if I was concerned about the strings catching, but with my buddies work I am not.

Very nice looking axe there Thorny! I like the woodgrain on the back, and especially like the model number on the neckplate (love when they did that!). It's cool that it has the original(?) case, and ashtray bridge cover. Can you tell us what the scale is? I was very surprised (pleasantly) to find that my 2238 is 24.5" scale, which is more comfy for my small hands, and I'm curious if the whole line had the shorter scale.

Glad to see the Bass again. I thought it played ok as it was, I'm sure it's even better now. I really liked the front split pickup, which must be a humbucker as it was very quiet when selected, the bridge pickup worked, but didn't do much for me. Thanks for giving it some attention. Are you gonna keep it, or try to sell it? Mike.

Nice tele........you know, if it was a 72 FNDR it would go for $ 3- 4 grand or more and I personally think these Electras are as good or better. The point is they are way under-valued in the marketplace currently but I think that will change as people get educated.
Stupid me.........I had the chance to scoop one about 2 years ago in a pawn shop for $ 125 (at the time = to about $ 100 US) and I passed. I called the guy the next day & it was sold.

25.5" scale - so normal fender size. Case is original - the plastic "bumpers" around the outside edges of the case shrank with age and had to be cut to lay down properly, otherwise it is just about like new.

Oh yeah, the bass - not wanting to sound like i was cutting it down - I wasn't. It just had the fingerboard popping off and it looked like someone tried to glue it before and it was popped up a bit. I am NEVER satisfied it seems with guitars - I can never leave well enough alone. That is why I went through the one Jack won before hand. Hopefully he liked the way it played. But after fixing the popped up fingerboard now you would be hard pressed to tell it ever did. One end was a bit high, but after some setup work on it you'd probably not know it. I leveled the frets the best I could (quickly) and crowned and polished. I reattached the nut and it was chipped around that area and I fixed most of that too. It isn't perfect and I know people that can do better, but you won't be able to afford them to do it on an inexpensive electra bass nor would they take the time I took - so my work will have to be good enough. I cleaned all the controls and set it up the best I could including intonation (not a bass player). It is a very nice bass - an excellent example of a Japanese-made P-J style bass.

Whether I am going to keep it? I don't know. I don't play bass but get the occasional bass amp in for repair. I might be convinced to trade it for another electra guitar I wanted in a similar price range, but I haven't actively pursued it. It is kind of nice having the bass around. I expect it now will look and play better than most you would find out there.
