I'm I lifelong Electra fan but recently got into strats. I currently have a 2002 MIM Fender that someone would trade me for an early 70's Electra strat. Black w/ maple board. I read that Tom P. says the early idea was to make the copies as cheap/inexpensive as possible. Was that earlier than 70's? What was the quality/sound like on these?

I just don't want to trade for a lower quality guitar simply because I love the brand. He'll be sending some pics later today, but here is the CL ad. Also, any idea on a model number?

Thanks.

no experience with the strat, but with the J-bass copy, there was a definitel quality difference from the early ones to the final years they made them. the peace sign logo ones seemed to be the best quality. followed a close second by the gibson-esque MOP name inlay. the early "Mod"/Round E logo's ones seemed to be more hit and miss on the quality. I've repaired a few of the early pickups because of the winding to lead connections had failed...

it's really a matter of consistency... I've seen lots of people just love their early Electra copies....

Awesome, thanks. He's supposed to be sending me pics today. I'm trying to figure out what model it is so I can find some specs. Pickups, body, fret size, etc... The only thing I can guestimate is that it's an Avenger of some kind, but I didn't see a black/maple combo listed anywhere in the catalogs or this site etc...

Here's another question....

These were made before Matsumoku, right? Would that make it a Kasuga built guitar? I've read good things about the Kasuga factory.

The more I look into this guitar, the more I'm getting confused... Sigh...

in this thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5132

Tom says the early copy Electras were Kasuga.

I don't see an avenger in the catalogs until 74, so no early Mod/Round E logo ones were made most likely, so that's a good sign....
for '74, there were 4 colors available...
2275 N - Natural
2275 C - Ivory Cream
2275 S - Sunburst
2275 B - Jet Black

String Thru Solid Maple Body

The Black model does not show in the '76 catalogue, so the black model was a 2 year max model...

By '79, only the Natural and Sunburst models remain, and they have the peace sign logo.
