1st post here...Does anyone know what models came with the rectangular hard shell case? I have seen some that are molded to the les paul shape. I have an outlaw and was wondering if there was one made for it? They have a lot of nice compartments that would hold the effects boxes on the mpc's. Were these stock at some point or were they optional? thanks!

Welcome...and yes, there is a molded rectangular Electra hardcase for the Outlaw...but it is extremely hard to find one. Good luck in your search.

What it even more confusing is that there appears to be some (molded rectangular) cases that are especially designed for the MPC's, specifically the MPC batwings, which are often busted off when you try to shoehorn them into a standard LP case (or the like).

I've seen them with the MPC's, Outlaws, X960's, X270's, and lots of guitars. Never can tell if they were originally sold that way, just have to take the sellers word I guess. I don't think the molded cases start showing up until the peacesign era (~1976), so anything designed before that probably wouldn't have been sold with one.

There is also a brown wooden rectangular case that I've seen with a number of the slab bodied X200 models, probably sold with others also. Has the Peacesign logo at an angle painted on the top. Kinda heavy, but cool, and we've seen tons of weird cases in the early days when SLM was buying from anyone and everyone, a real grab bag. Not sure if this answers your question though... Mike.

I had a black molded case for an X270 and a brown molded for an X960 - both guitars fit either case - no surprise as the body shape is pretty much identical. LP style Electra's did not fit those cases. An Outlaw fits most LP style cases I've had but would definitely not fit any molded Electra case unless it was specifically made for the Outlaw. I know the Outlaw basses have molded cases so I will assume the 6 strings did as well. I just don't recall seeing one offhand.
