Does anyone know if the finish on these (1981 models) is substantially different than the thick, shiny "POLY" coating you usually find on Phoenix models? I grabbed one locally for $135 but it looks like the grain was not filled before it was painted and the paint is very thin and flat (matte). 3 singles and a blond neck. I figured the neck was worth the price.

Mine had a thick poly finish on it before I stripped it all off. X145VS I loved the finish that was on it, but the body was in 3 seperate peices, so I had no choice but to strip it and make it ugly.

Sounds like it's been refinished- all of them I've seen have a poly finish,although thickness varies.
