Hi guys,
I'm a newbie here, just purchased a 2221
Looks exactly like the one on this websites catalog listing
My pickups seem to look a bit different
Serial # 0154376

Any insight into the electronics on this, do they need to be upgraded?
Is this a pre law suit , or do these models not apply?
Looks like a maple neck, rosewood fretboard w / inlays
Does anyone know the type of wood the body is made of?
How would you rate this model?
The condition is amazing , held up well, I assume it was well built?
Are there any issues with these models I need to be aware of?
I assume it is a 72??
Thanks for any advice, appreciate your help.
Cant wait to get another Electra.
approx value on these ?

Thanks , Jeff

If you have one like the red one in the models section then the date range is correct from around 1972 or so. The pickups sound OK but if you look under the cover you will most likely find a single coil pickup under the cover. The pickups are very micro phonic and sensitive and the electronics are OK. The binding and overall construction are good but later models with different manufacturers were far superior such as the Maple Pro, Burgundy Pro etc. The one flaw I know of on these early models is the neck pocket and the problems it can cause with a high action and inability to hold a proper setup and intonation. This can be fixed sometimes by adding a shim in the neck pocket and lowering the bridge assembly. These were some of the very early electra models and are collectable for that reason and for a occasional player not to bad. I would not use this model as a gig guitar. So far as the upgrades go in original condition it will retain it's value but if you don't like the way it sounds and plays and you plan on playing it then I would upgrade to what I liked so far a the pickups etc go. If it were me I would keep it original and enjoy the guitar as is and if you like the Electra Hollow body style then find you a nice X410 Jazz Strad or other later model as they will not disappoint. Welcome to the Forums and the world of Electra egas.
Here is a photo of the other Hollow Body models I have in my collection enjoy

Thanks for the info. Looks like you need one for your awesome collection.
I will play around with it for a while and see if the tuning and intonation are an issue.

If i did eventually unload it what do you think a reasonable price is??

I really like the look and condition of it, really gonna try to make it function. Hate to stuff in a closet. Too bad , I was hoping for a gig guitar. I had looked at an x410 with the tortise shell banding, nice , he was asking 1500, could of grabbed it for 1200 most likely. Kicking myself now. There is one on Ebay asking something like 2199 ??

Anyway, I appreciate your input .

Thanks, Jeff

If the one you have is in order and you can learn to use at a lower volume due to the micro phonics so long as the setup is good they can be used as a gig guitar. The values on these models are somewhere between $200-$450 depending on the market at the time. You can look it up on ebay under sold items and se what the last few have sold for. If I were wanting a Semi Hollow body style to gig with the X410 would fit the bill especially if you play rhythm or lead or maybe the Elvin Bishop. All are about the same price range and going up but are superior quality and tone as well as construction. Good Luck
