https://www.dropbox.com/sc/92tgngqbwclzetb/AACELIicq1l0OyDuiD-vTb70aCheck out this Electra Westone bass 1984 X695JB. My friend gave this to me but I am afraid when he figures out how wonderful it is he will want it back! I have set the neck and the action is fantastic and the shape of the neck fits my hand like a glove. So much better than my Fender Jaguar Jazz bass in feel, tone, speed, and sound possibilities. However it ways a freekin ton! The case is pretty beat up. What do you all think, should I recover the case or leave it in its natural scuffed up condition? I am afraid that if I recover it it would be like removing the original wood finish of an old antique piece of furniture. The guitar is in great shape, just has a little tarnish here and there, and it needs a new nut on the fret less neck. I live in Costa Rica and am having problems finding one. If I make one, what are they made of? And anybody know where I can find a blank?
I am really excited about having this bass. Can't wait for someone to ask me what it is.

Hi there, and welcome to you and your Phoenix!!

The pic you uploaded doesn't appear to have made it; we'd all sure like to see it!! Can't imagine how on earth an Electra made it down to Costa Rica!!

As for the case; re-cover... no question! I've just built a case for my XV-1 and covering it was the cheapest part of the deal; I got an end of a roll of vinyl for very little money and did the job - looks a million bucks!!

The nut; well, if it's a standard Phoenix bass nut then perhaps one of Stewmac or similar nuts will do the job?

Good luck!

Do you have to take special precautions against the humidity in Costa Rica in regard to your guitars? I know I have to be a little careful here in Queensland, Australia in the wet season.....

I will try again with the posting of a pic, but I don't know how to do it I guess. Yes it is very very humid down here. What precautions should I take? I will try and recover, but there is a lot of stitching on the ends of the case that I don't know how to do. I have made my own case for my Fender and it turned out very nice, but the darn thing weighs a ton. Thanks for the info on finding a nut for the fretless.
Here goes another attempt at a photo.

Is there a serial number on both of the headstocks and is it the same number?

The necks have different numbers for the last three digits. Both start with 401
