Hi, this is Keefman. I'm new to this forum. I just received an Electra 2253W. I know nothing about this model. I was looking at the model page and they had a really nice natural finish one. Well, mine is black and looks just like the Fender '72 Tele Custom Keith Richards used to play. Yea, I'm a huge Keith fan( hince the username) since I became a musician 36 years ago. Could anybody help with some specs on this model? I'm sorry if this seems like such a newbee question, but.....

Hello Keefman
I'm probably looking at the same page you saw and if its any
indication then I would say you got a nice hunk of wood there.

Electra Tele

I think somebody around here has one and might be able
to say more on it.

You forgot to mention how it plays or what the neck is.
Do you have any good pics you can share with us?

You can upload pics to your web page or to a hosting site
then past the link (url) to it in a reply.

Thanks, jbyear1!!
The one I was given is gloss black, not neutral, like others of this model I've seen. It has a maple on maple neck, that is just so sweet for a guy like me with small hands. The neck is in great shape and the body has no nicks or anything. It's like its been in someones closet just getting old for the past 30 years. A little lemon oil treatment to the back of the neck has smoothed it back to perfection!!!! The black body paint is kinda dull, like you might expect after time. It sounds real nice!!! The only problem I'm having now is Trying to tighten the truss rod. I'm putting on heavier strings for my open-G tuning( As you might expect). Is the only way to get at the truss rod by taking the pickguard off? My allen wrenches won't fit down in the space. If you know what I mean....I don't know what kind of wood the body is, do you, or anybody? This guitar was just given to me today and I really know nothing about it, except it looks just like Keith's Fender. Thanks and any help would be appreciated!!!

welcome!

you mean the truss rod nut isn't at the headstock, under the truss rod cover? some electra tele were that way, maybe yours is different.

i love my Electra tele, great neck, great feel. I bet yours is great too!

Thanks X189player,
No my truss rod adjuctment is a the bottom of the neck. Theres a little space between the end of neck and start of pickguard. I just can't seem to get the allen wrench in to it. I need to take the pickguard off to check the shielding, so I'll adjust then. It is such a COOL thing!!! I'm gonna take it apart as soon as I'm done here, fix it, then START ME UP!!!!!(ha- ha )
Is yours the black one ? I really am new to these ELECTRA's, but from what I've read they sound pretty good. I was given this because it looks so much like the '72 Tele Keith used to play. Due to some illneess problems, I've had to sell off all but 1 F****r Strat. ( I had 9 Tele's and Strats) I'll post some pics in a day or so, after I get it set-up and banged on it!! Thanks for all your help!

sounds like a plan. Mine was originally cream white, but after much abuse and some refinishing it is now natural wood- still with the original white pickguard though. you can read about the project here- http://www.therathole.org/guitars/ggboa ... php?t=1382

Keefman was curious about the body wood. It looks like others in the series were either white ash or chestnut. Maybe someone with one will pipe up and have the answer.

Well guys(or gals, whoknows) I've spent the day with it. I took it to a local luthier and had it confirmed as an ash body. I put new strings on, was able to straighten the neck and have been jamming with it. WOW, it sounds GREAT!!! I must thank my friend for giving me this!!! He knew, in my current state, that this will be about as close to a '72 Tele Custom as I'm gonna get and I really like this Electra!!! I'll post some pics in a couple of days, if anyone is interested. I just love this!!!! Sorry for the geekness, but this is the first new(?!?) guitar I've got for the last few years. Exile is on the cd player and I'm back to it......Talk to ya'll in a bit.....

Very cool! My 2248 has an ash cap over mahogany slabs with a thin core of something harder (ash? maple?) in the middle. No doubt some models were solid, others not. It plays and looks good, whatever it is.
