 Post subject: Bridge replacement?
PostPosted: Thu Nov 18, 2004 12:47 pm
I just picked up a decent Electra Rock model, but the bridge is terrible and missing some saddles. Are you guys using the Gotoh bridge as a replacement or is there something better?

Thanks!

Rock model? Which model do you mean, one of the 70's Lp copies, or a Phoenix, or something else? (cause you know, you can play rock on any of them :)

Standard bridges of the same type as the original should work- gibson-type tuneomatics, or strat-type bridges for the tek-loks on early Phoenixes, or two-point floating bridges for the later Westones and such. In other words, standad replacements should be fine, although there is sometimes a difference between metric- and non-metric string spacing. Sometimes 'Ibanez-style' is used as a buzz-word for metric sizes of japanese guitars.

But if you get the spacing right, and use a standard type, it should be fine. Gotoh or Floyd Rose-style, or any of those should be fine. in my experience what makes the difference for a floating tremolo without tuning problems isn't the bridge as much as using a graphite nut with a locking nut behind it- and any standard locking nut will do the trick.
