Hello everyone,

I suppose most of you know the problem- a part of your Westone is broken, and how two replace it?
In my case the (three parted) snare lock of my Pantera X275has to be replaced. Scavenge another Pantera, or a Spectrum, is the only option, but where? I want to keep my Pantera as original as possible...

So does anybody know the ultimate Westone spare parts (internet) shop?
Or does anybody have this locking system and would this person be willing to help out a fellow Westone lover?

what's a three-parted snare lock? you mean the locking nut? if so, I've replaced the plates by trimming down 6mm washers, and used 6mm bolts (if I recall correctly) to replace the originals. But there are two kinds of locking nut I know of, that's the kind where the two outside plates are tirangular; there's another kind where all three are rectangular and the whole is enclosed. And maybe you mean the base unit that screws to the neck needs to be replaced?

In any case, I know of no such parts source, the same problem exists with broken claws on the bendmaster bridges. And I agree with you- I like to keep my guitars as original as possible, and it feels awful to part out one guitar to make another complete. Maybe another solution is to look around for a guitar that's already been modified and use its parts, then add aftermarket parts to complete the modified guitar.

If I had a machine shop, it seems like those locking nuts are something you could make without huge effort... anyone got a friend with a CNC machine?

Let me know exactly which part you mean, if I can help with spares I will, though it's doubtful. I have lately taken to surfing ebay for unidentified parts taken from Uncle Matt guitars- I found a set of knobs this way- but it's admittedly a long shot.

My English is not as good as it should be, locking nut is right. It's the triangular version. This is what it looks like now


The middle part is different from a Spectrum, I suppose...

My problem is as you can see not the plates, but the -what do I call it... the part the screws go into, that is bolted to the guitar. One of the holes (the left one in the pic) is - again I don't know the word, the screw won't tap in.

I'd have no problem using the other locking system BTW; my other Pantera has that system, so it looks and feels original enough...

Ahhh... I see what you mean.

OK, two suggestions:

1. drill out the stripped hole, and tap threads into it to accept a larger diameter bolt. You can make a one-time tap by filing a notch into a bolt, like on a self-tapping screw. Then all you have to do is make larger holes in the plates- or what I'd do, is just make new plates, by cutting down washers.

2. I'll trade you for one that isn't stripped out. at least one project guitar i have with the same part will be very non-original, so I don't care so much about a non-original size bolt on it. PM me and we can talk details.

I like your wish to keep your Pantera original if possible. I believe these are some of the best guitars made, and they deserve to be preserved intact for future history, and for us to enjoy now!
