1964 Traynor Bassmaster amp (its 5 years older than i am!)
and a peavey 4x10

I plug both the compressor and an uncompressed signal to the Randall

Huge sound.

I am not much of a bass player, more like a guitarist-wannabe-bass-player. but I have it lucky, I play a Quantum. love the action, sound, and balance of the thing.

Yes I play bass...I have a few weapons of choice including the following:

Currently I am running through a 1981 100w JCM800 BASS HEAD over a monster 4x12 HIWATT cabinet.

I have an Electra Longnecker Jazz Bass

Practice amp is a Orange Crush 20B 20W

and I just got a ASI 65W amp head that will be mated with a custom 2x15 cab when I get around to making it....

The key to this is, of course, is that I'm a drummer. Go figure.

Drum and bass go hand in hand. If your rhythm section isn't tight nothing else ( including the ladies ) will be either.

I've been told I play guitar and bass like a drummer would...pity my poor guitars when I use actual drumsticks on them. I mostly started playing guitar because I had no place to practice drums, so I grabbed a buddy's electric guitar so I could play something quietly. That snowballed, a bit- I still have the drum set I bought used for $185 in 1985, but I've had well over 100 guitars since then. Fixing them up & selling them definitely contributed to buying my house, though, which now gives me a place to play my drums REALLY loudly!

...the part you can't see in that picture is that there are mics on every drum, which feeds them through the PA...let's see, 1 x 18", 6 x 15", 2 x 12", 4 mid/high horns, 4 tweeters...yeah, it gets stupid if I want.

I always wanted to play drums. A good childhood friend of mine was a drummer and I envied that fella.
He had an understanding mother who'd help him out buying what he needed and getting those to assist sound proofing his room. So that he'd have somewhere else to play than an already crowded and unheated garage.
Then I became friends with a band down the street from him called DMZ, and their drummer had a serious kit. I used to go and hang out and watch them jam just studying this guys drumming moves. He was actually the best around the area for a number of years so it was pretty cool having that " in your backyard " so to speak.
I started with guitar didn't have much luck with it and I never really grasped that well how to do all the tricks and stuff with a pick.
Then I tried out bass guitar at another friend's house, and he showed me roughly how to play it and from there I was hooked. The rest as they say is history.
Nahh man I like the studio set up you have, that makes it even better that your jam room is in your own house. I tell you there is really nothing worse than having to pay to play ( i.e. a rented rehearsal studio ).
Mic'd drums is the only way to go in my opinion too. Just sounds better when you're playing with other people. No fills drop out no kicks get unnoticed. It is amazing the difference of having your kit mic'd, like night and day.
Plus having the luxury of a P.A., you'll have a solid idea of just how your drums will sound in a club setting. As all week you've played thru the house system..Only it's your house. Doesn't get much better than that.

Exactly why I like running a PA in my own house for guitar- I run a small amp and either mic it or direct it. patching through a multieffect gives some semblance of room, too.

Actually this is such a different approach than a larger amp that i have to make myself practice that too- haul a combo out on the front porch and serenade the cornfields...

but speaking of BASS, I also keep a small bass practice amp around- just loud enough to get some tone. gotta love those closed-back cabinets!

I play a Westone Thunder I (Light Oak) and a Thunder IA (Black) through an old 80's 200watt mcgregor head married to a new Peavey 430TVX cab, I also play an American made Fender Jazz.

I have been searching for a Quantum bass because it runs normal strings and not Steinberger type double ball end strings, also for portability purposes(weight).

I gather the Quantum bass is fairly light? X189Player?

Yes, it's light, and very well balanced. There's sort of a stereotype with guitars and basses with extremely minimal bodies that they're hard to balance and hold steady- but the quantum is really good for that, every one of those lines and angles is designed to make it easy to hold and play.

If I were playing bass for a regular gig I might choose this one, because it's so comfortable. Sounds great, too!

Looks sweet, does anyone here know if there was a catalogue for the quantum series?

I will definitely buy the next one I see.
