Hi everyone--new Westone owner here--

I recently picked up a beat-to-hell Westone Spectrum ST from a pawnshop, and my internet research seems to indicate that there should be some sort of push-pull coil-split option. However, I've tugged at every knob and switch on this thing and haven't gotten it out of what sounds like single-coil mode. Perhaps one of the push-pull pots has died? I'm not even getting any tactile feedback.

Does anyone know of a relatively quick and painless way to get this thing out of single-coil mode? Pictures would be helpful.

For what it's worth, I like the guitar a lot--it's easily the smoothest-playing guitar I have, despite the million battle scars it has.

Thanks!

Hello and Welcome ignatz

The ST comes with 2 humbuckers, Right?
The pickup selector switch should be in the middle so you can test all the features
of the push/pull pots. Start with all of the pots pushed in.

Then tap on pickups with a screwdriver to make sure they all work.

Once you have ascertained they are working you can start pulling one pot
at a time as you play to hear the differences.

Let us know how it goes.

the tone knob is the one that should be a pull-switch. you might remover the back control cover and look to see if the original pulls witch pot is in place- looks like this (and you can use these for replacements too):

it should be a 500K push-pull pot. The switch should be connected to the red wire of the bridge humbucker, and the switching connects it to ground.

Thanks for the tips. I appreciate it. Both humbuckers are definitely working... just not at full untapped capacity!

X189Player, it looks as if the tone knob may have been replaced somewhere down the line with a non-push-pull pot... the tone pot looks exactly like the volume pot--appears to be a pretty standard 500K pot, at least per the markings. Nothing at all like the push-pull pot you linked to. Maybe someone cheaped out on a repair job? Considering the state of the guitar in general, I would not be surprised.

Hmm!
