Hi there, I am looking for a late 70's / early 80's Electra Flying V. I had one that looked exactly the Electra Flying V when I was growing up. I'm getting back into music again, and wanted to re-connect with the gear I had back then.

Any help in finding one would be appreciated. Thanks!

They show up on ebay maybe twice a year, with prices in the 300-500$ range.

BTW, I have another suggestion for everyone who likes Vees (I love em, play jazz on em)- with all due respect to vintage japanese guitars of all kinds, right now Gibson is selling their faded Vees as a loss leader, below cost. Except for the fact that the finish is a think coat of satin nitro instead of a polished finish (a bunch of the manufacturing cost) they are identical to the regular $1200 standard Vee. I see faded Vees going for $499 all the time. Like all modern Gibsons they vary considerably in quality, wood, etc so it's best if you can get the chance to play it in person.

I would second that recommendation (unless you have a nostalgic connection to the Electra V). Most of the new Gibsons are acceptable quality, depending a lot of times, on where they are made. Some are made in China now. A lot of controversy about that in some of the Les Paul forums, but it seems to be a fact.

I bought a Les Paul Junior (with that less than great new "faded" finish that X189player describes) that was made in Nashville for export-only to Japan, and it kicks ass. (Though I had to buy it from a dealer in Japan which comes with its own set of headaches.)
