I'd like to introduce myself and my bass. I found this forum after doing some searching to find out what ever happened to Electra as a company. After reading the site over, I guess I have my answer. I bought my 2288 R-Bass new sometime around 1974 or 75. Nothing has been changed or been altered on the bass, and it's still in good shape, except for an electronic problem that I'll save for another part of this board. I traded in the bass I had at the time because I wanted a new one. I traded in a gold late 60s Gibson Thunderbird, but I try not to think about that much. Anyway, the Electra and I have been through some miles together, and it's been a great guitar for may years. I'm excited to find others that feel the same about the brand and the guitars. I've got some pictures, and some day I'll figure out how to post them here. Mine looks much better than the one on the index of models, so I feel pretty good about that.

Welcome. It's good to see you enjoy your Electra.
Although a Thunderbird is my dream bass, I won't hold it aginst you, because an Electra is fine.
With my luck, an Electra bass is something I'll never find where I am.
Anyhow, I hope you get pics so we can see it. :D

Thanks.
Yea, I wish I had the Thunderbird back now too...along with the Flying V that I traded for a synth that the band needed...and the Fender Reverb I sold to the neighbor's dad in 1973 so he could make scary sounds at Holloween...and the Vox guitar traded for a mic. I'm going to go shoot myself now.

But hey, I've got the Electra, right? And it really is a great bass. And I managed to still have a '63 Gretsch Dbl. Anniversary. Must have overlooked it and forgot to trade it away.

Oh, yes - we've all got the scary stories, eh; mine is a mint '58 Tele that wound up with its guts torn out and thrown over my left shoulder and an (awful) custom paint job!
In my defence I was 19 and I traded it for a Vantage VA900... which I still have! Also had an Ibanez 2380 at the same time...

Corsair, you look quite young for 19. Was that an early Kiwi boy band?

...and we were good! But sadly never signed so disappeared without trace!! :D :D

My nephews, actually! The redhead with the Ibanez is now a respected bassist around the South Island, but he's an Ibanez player so we have 'interesting' discussions at times...

My friend Bobby is an Ibanez-er as well, I feel what you mean. :P

Anyhow, you said that the Tele had a bad paint job?
Looks nice to me.

...ah, it was OK as far as it goes but it was a beautiful aged creamy yellow until I I got it! See it still had the 'ashtray' rear p'up cover, though!!
That Ibanez was an awful thing; heavy body, weak p'ups and switches that appeared to do nothing at all once I got it home!!

As far as I'm concerned, you did it a favor painting it.
Creamy yellow is ick.
