Hello all - I'm a newcomer to the Electra guitar world and to this forum. I recently bought an early 2249 Super Rock Natural, and it's a beautiful guitar. I'm not much of a player, but having worked as a roadie for the Allman Brothers Band in the late '60s I have always had a love for the classic style of the Les Paul. Duane Allman and Dicky Betts both played them, and I spent many hours babysitting their prize axes.

I can honestly say I had never heard of the Electra brand, so when I saw this beautiful flame-maple guitar in a shop I was very impressed with its quality and overall solid feel. It has some minor "battle scars" but nothing serious at all. It has been played, but there is little sign of fret wear, etc. It had the original hard case with it, and although I think I paid a little over market value, I have no regrets about buying it.

Having done as much research as I can, I realize that there really isn't any easy way to identify who made these early models. This one has the "open book" headstock and MOP inlays. The tuners have stars inset in each one, but don't know if they are original or not. It has a clear pick guard, gold hardware (with most of the finish rubbed off), and black speed knobs.

I have read that the quality of the early models was hit-and-miss, but this one appears to be excellent. It's a very well-made piece.

I will post some photos soon, but just wanted to know if anyone could shed any light on year of manufacture and maker. I know there are lots of variations, but any info would be helpful.

I think I'm hooked! I'm already checking eBay for other Electra offerings, so I expect there will be more in my house before too long.
