I purchased what was called an X185 on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0364285826

But, I thinkits actually a X189 because of the color (that im not sure is origional, but it looks like it is)

This guitar is a little strange. It has had lots of play as indicated by the grooves worn into the frettboard. But, as a whole the guitar is in pristine condition. Even the back of the neck that has the very worn fretboard? Maybe it was previously owened by a lady with long fingernails?

Anyway, I dont think the covers have ever even been removed from the back, but the black is worn off of the screws. All of the electronics seem to work perfectly. Pull the volume pot and it splits both humbuckers.
Pull the first tone pot (Center knob) and it turns on the single coil. Pull the second tone pot and it reverses the phase on the bridge.

Any info would be very helpfull. I have a X110 that I routed and put a neck pickup in (sort of like a X155 but only 2 knobs) and a very beat up X145VS that someone routed for a Humbecker in the bridge (currently being stripped and refinished, way to ugly to save).

Anyway, any help on the model and origionality of the finish would be great.

Blessings, Paul

Welcome to the forums, mate!

Between the two, I would agree that it's an x189, but not because of the color; rather, because it has a two post bridge/tremolo. That color is gorgeous though, I really like that sunburst. FYI, especially in the phoenix models, the list of colors in the model index could very well blend some - it's by no means an unabridged index. I'm also inclined to agree that the finish is original. Either that or someone did a fantastic refin. Needless to say, it looks like you got yourself a great guitar! There are many more on the forum that know more about these models than I do, and I'm sure they'll chip in with insights/corrections/etc.

Best Regards,
Oreo

Dunno - I'd always thought that the difference between the X185 and X189 was that the 185 was bolt neck and the 189 was set-neck? Neither of the guitars specs in here have the Bendmaster trem pictured either; they both have a standard strat-style so who knows?
My Westone Spectrum (X185) is a blueburst with 2 post Bendmaster trem and a bolt neck; does that help?!?
