It's an 1984 X140BK Westone Spectrum DX!

Make no mistake, even though it doesn't say Electra any more, it's 100% an Electra Phoenix making a swansong under a new name. (after 86 they were gone)

DX's (and others of the time) had fantastic bulletproof black paint that was actually aircraft eurethane, it's amazingly hard. This one has a Bendmaster DX bridge with fine tuners and locking nut so if you really feel the need to divebomb, you can return with dignity. Or ignore the nut and tuners and you've got a great playing guitar. Pull the tone knob for coil tap and these MMK45's deliver a huge tonal range.

This fine example is one of the very first of this model, made in 7/84. Oddly, the first run didn't have a stamped serial number on the back of the headstocks, but had it stamped on the neck plate like Matsumoku did with Vantages. Previous Electra Phoenixes all had stamped serials, and all the 85-86 Westone Spectrums did too. It seems like an odd detail that got changed quickly.

There's basically nothing I can find wrong with this one except it's dusty and needs love. That tells the whole story of why I'm giving it up to a new home.

Remember, you can win one of these guitars and projects even if you can't attend ElectraFest in person. Just be sure to register for the drawing by sending a PM to ProEndorser.

I can't think of any venue where a black guitar is out of place. From a wedding dance to hardcore and everywhere inbetween. It's guitars like this that are really practical players in the real world.

God, you just gotta love the Spectrum/Phoenix range; I do!!! Sweet, sweet guitars to play... if I'm honest, I would have to say that my old Spectrum ST (Phoenix 135), is as nice, or nicer, to play than my stratocaster which has been heavily modified to suit me!! They have the most gorgeous necks in all of guitardom and... I'm raving again, aren't I....?!?!?! :D

Gee, I wish I could be there, fellas...

I don't know Paul... this is a toss up which of the two should be considered the 'Grand Prize'. Whoever has first choice is gonna have a tough decision! I'll try to report the tension in the air accurately.

Oh just wait. You have no idea.

There are actually eight ranging from this down to a pile of broken firewood. I'll announce more of these, another one tonight, so by the time you guys are ready to draw, the forum audience at home can see them too.

But I'm not gonna spoil the surprise of Project X (#4 actually) until the boxes arrive and you open number 1 of 3. Then you have to record for me your comments and impressions upon seeing it.

heh, I'm having so much fun,
X

This is truly excellent  Eight of 'em!?

We need to do a webcam feed to and from the 'fest, and get the reactions of the whole lot of us! Is that possible? Do we (the collective 'we') have the technology? I'm bringing my laptop and a cam just in case....

Good on ya X! I can only imagine how much fun you are having with this. You've given a lot of mystique to the event already! :D

Man, the forums 'll be poppin on Sunday! :hyper:

:bawl: Wish I could make the trip. I will be stuck down south in Ga for the fest. I will be checking the forum all weekend to see whats going on. I think it will be a very interesting and entertaining weekend and I hate to miss out on the chance to try out some of the awesome Electra models that will be there. Thanks again to the Host and to our new Electra Santa aka X189 player for all the hard work and effort that they have put in to make this a reality for us all. SALUTE and THANKS

This one cleaned up nicely, had to put a couple strings on it and found that the bridge seems to have two different places you can thread the string through... anyone know what the deal is with this bridge? Is it setup for twelve string use? Nice coiltap push pull, some ones gonna love it.
