Hey guys, I just got my hands on an X320. I don't know but when I first saw this thing I fell in love with it. And after I researched it I wanted to marry it. The only problem I have is that when I plug it into amps I get NO SOUND. Not even a buzz. So when I gather some cash I guess I'm going to have to take it to a repair to get a diagnosis. Other than that its in a pretty sexy condition, the body looks and feels great the tuners are kinda greenish though but that scrapes right off.
I'm very happy. If you guys have had any trouble with sound coming out of an amp I would appreciate some feedback.

Mate, you really need to take some pix and put 'em in here for us to see!! :D Right-o, then; do you get any sound at all with the guitar plugged in - pops, clicks etc. especially when you touch the pole pieces with a screwdriver tip?

I would check the input jack first as stated in previous post to see if you get and pops, clicks etc. If so then I would check the volume knobs and wiring in the back panel section for the knobs etc. If the guitar has not been used in some time you may just need to clean the contacts on the volume pots. Please keep us updated and post some pics when you can as that will help. Welcome to the Electra Forums.

Welcome to the forum dude. The 5 way on an MPC needs a little contact cleaner from time to time, and could be part or all of the problem. The spray cleaner RobotDr recommends is best. I cant think of the name.

It's not uncommon for guitar jacks to go bad, it's actually the most common defective part. I would start by using two jumper wires (little alligator clips make it easy but twisting em is fine) and connect the tip and ground of a live cable (with amp attached) to the connections at the output jack.

Also, (MPC experts help me out) if you have no 9v battery (or it's dead) then it still works so long as the MPC effect is switched off, right?

Welcome!

Hey thanks for all the input guys. I'm sorry there's no pics up yet, I don't have a fancy camera yet BUT I will try to get something up.
Ok I just wanted to get across that my knowledge of the guitar is pretty limited to just some theory. When it comes to wiring and the insides of them I'm still in the back seat.
So I tried plugging a cord into the input jack and AS IT WAS ENTERING it made cracks and pops. But once fully in it went silent. I believe the guitar hasn't been used in quite a bit, so I plan on trying to "clean the contacts on the volume pots" and on the 5 way switch. But I really don't know what that means exactly hopefully someone can help me out there. *Spray cleaner suggestion needed too* *and directions*
After I try that and nothing works, I'm going to try x189player's suggestion with the jumper wires. Tomorrow is going to busy. Thanks for the welcome guys, I truly appreciate it.

You are correct about the MPC and 9 volt X189. If the battery is out or dead it should work so long as the switches are both off and the switches are working correctly. Another way to start is to remove the MPC modules also to eliminate a problem with one or both of them.

I think it is best to keep it simple and eliminate as much as possible as you go. Replacing the 9v won't hurt. It is under the back pannel that is hinged. Taking out the modules is also a good idea and check that they are switched off (two big toggles in the up position). Check that the volume knob is turned on (dont trust the numbers rotate it).

Electrical Contact cleaner is the right product for cleaning pots, jacks and switches. Radio Shack or a decent hardware store should have it. To clean a pot or a switch, open the guitar control cavity (the trapazoid shaped pannel in the back that is screwed in). You should be able to see the volume and tone pot as well as the two that control the modules. Spray a little cleaner into each pot and rotate them back and forth. While you are in there, look to see if any wires are loose. If so try and draw a diagram so we can help you. The five way switch is under the round plate on the back. Spray a little cleaner again and move the switch to each position several times. Once again check for loose wires.

To clean the jack properly is a bit trickyer but you could try just spraying some cleaner into the jack and then puffin and un-plugging the guitar a few times. To clean it properly you have to remove it and the plate that holds it . If you do so, be carefull not to pull of the wires. Contact cleaner and a rag should do the cleaning trick. And once again check for loose wires. Yours should have three wires rahter than the standard two.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Pots are being cleaned, Jack is being cleaned. However I left it with a repair man who believes it isn't just the pots, but possibly a loose wire.

Man, I missed a bunch of posts around here. I think the 'View New Posts' gets confused sometimes. Then again, the more likely scenario is that I am confused.....

At any rate, welcome aboard Roaring20s! This is one very cool place dedicated to some very cool guitars. You'll love it!

Cheers!
