After having such a great experience with my first Electra (X410 Jazz Strad), I've been keeping my eyes open for something similar, but in a solid body MPC model. So when I got the chance to pick up a 1981 Vulcan X950 from a member here with a similar color scheme and tortoise shell binding, I went for it.

Now it's not in the same near-mint shape that the X410 is, but I like a guitar that has some good honest playwear because, generally, there is a good reason for that wear. And in this case it has it in spades. It plays great with nice low action, and the original pickups sound great. It's my first experience with an MPC guitar, so one of the first things I did was play around with the Tone Spectrum knob. All I can say is Wow! Position 5 (in series, out of phase) is such a great tone! I can already tell it will be one of my faves. Then I started messing around with the MPC modules (Power Overdrive and Phase Shifter). The OD is OK, I guess it's just a volume boost which can come in handy. But the Phase Shifter sounded phenomenal (I settled on a setting of 4 -5). And that combined with the out of phase setting, again WOW!. I'm like a kid with a new toy. I figured it would be a nice, well built double humbucker guitar, but I had no idea that the Modules and Tone Spectrum would give me so much more versatility. I think I'll start keeping my eyes open for a Treble Bass and Filter Follower modules. This one will definitely go with me to my next gig, and I can see it quickly becoming one of my favorites.

The case is kind of beat up, but functional and original. It even has a couple of the original hangtags, including the warranty card.

8) Thats a cool one and I am glad to see that it found a good home with a fellow Electra lover and forum member. You will find that the MPC models are all of great sound and quality as with most any Electra model. Congrats on the score and enjoy. The Filter follower and Bass/treble expander are great modules. I have each one and love them. I would advise sending the Overdrive to Thorny for a mod and you eill like the results. Rock On and enjoy it. 8)

A very beautiful axe; it's still in really great shape;

Glad you are happy with it;

Also interesting that you have the original warranty card and hang tags;

I still have these from my X330 which I bought new in early 1979,
although it appears to be an early 77 model with SN - 11193;
Purchased X340 in 1977 which has SN - 11587;
I guess Billy's Band Aid must have had the X330 hanging on the wall for a while ......

Nice looking guitar. The Teble/Bass Expander module #3 will complement the phaser settings and give you a bigger range of tone on 1-5 settings.
