Here is the story and pic of what I am guessing is a 72-74 LP copy. I bought this guitar for $75.00 when I was eighteen years old at local pawn shop and sold it the same year to the bass player in our band. That was 1980…here a week or so ago I made contact with the guy who bought it from me and he unexpectedly says you know I still have that old guitar you sold me. I said how much would you want to part with it…and he said you can have it…………. so here are some pics. I would like any information you could give me about it. There is no numbers anywhere on this guitar.

It looks close to a 72' catalog 2254. From the pics it looks to be a good looking guitar. I always loved those head stocks and inlays. If you enlarge the catalog photo you can see it has the same style bridge and tail. It has speed knobs so that may make older than 72' and would fit in the change over era somewhere as discribed in the model index. Good score.

I took the photos with my cell phone and it really looks alot better in the photo than it does in person. It has seen many nights on the stage and has the scares to prove it.

This was the first real good guitar i owned and the only reason i sold it at age 18 was to help purchase my new Gibson Les Paul. When i got my new Real LP i knew i had made a very expensive mistake. My new LP did not sound or play as good as my Electra that i just sold. :bawl:

To think i would get this same guitar back nearly 29 years later is a real cool thing to happen. The front pickup was changed out because it did work but i still have it. The real dark spot on top of the headstock is not on the guitar i guess it is something the camera must have caused.

I do feel lucky to get this back. I spent 29 years telling my band mates over the years about this guitar and how i messed up selling it. When i called my friends to tell them that i got it back each one would say oh yeah thats the one you alwalys talk about. I have a photo of me at 18 playing this guitar in a band.

Reunited, good story man. I don't know if it's the lighting or what, but all these 70's Gold tops look Tan to me, do they look as Gold as a Gibson in person? Here's to getting reacquainted, cheers, Mike.

The color in the pic is not what it really is... but close. I took that with a cell phone. The real color is more gold than tan. But it sure does have a tan kind of tint to it. Maybe, from old age.

This old guitar does have a special place close to my heart. It was the first guitar I started learning how to play lead guitar on, and the first time, I got to do it in front of a live crowd in a band was on this guitar.

The coolest memory, I have while learning to play lead guitar, was playing out one night on a five night in a roll gig. We were rocking out on an old song called (Mama Let him Play) by, Ducett. Always our last song of the night back then.

Now the real lead player in the band was really good but never wanted to help me, and he did not… he would actually turn away if he caught me watching his hands. Well, right where the big lead solo in this song begins, he snaps his A string…on this the last song, and a big solo for him.

I saw this, and took off with the lead ride... with no break in the song. He broke it on the first note...i had it on the second note. No one in the crowd even knew it happen. The other guys in the band were smiling big time, they did not even know I could play this lead solo.

When the solo was over, and I jumped back to power chord rhythm, I look over to my right side, and there set the our lead player trying his hardest to get that string changed.

He did not make it in time. And that is when the leader of the band begin look my way on other jobs after that night, and would say take a lead ride…Buddy.

So, one of my best life time musical memories, was made on this guitar, at the ripe ole age of 18, and that night open the door that changed every thing for me as a guitar player. I became lead player... :D

:hyper: Glad that the Guitar found its way Home again. It is always good to hear of an original owner finding that special Axe again. Now you can enjoy the guitar and memories again. Congrats on the score and she is a looker and I bet she plays like a dream.

Now that's a one-in-a-thousand story.
I wish I could meet my Peavey's original owner.
