I was recently asked about this -

But I hadn't thought about it for a while -

When purchased new my X340 had gold control knobs - as seen in the collections link below; the performance pics show the X340 with the gold control knobs; in more recent pics they are black; also had a clear pick guard - which I immediately changed to the off white (manila) pick guard which is more appealing to me;

However my X330 when purchased had BLACK control knobs and the off white (manila) pick guard;

I had seen the catalog pics of the X330 with the gold controls and thought they looked better, so when I installed the Supercharger pot kit in the X340 I also exchanged the control knobs between the 2; my preference, as the black control knobs match the pickup rings on the X340; back then I also ordered and installed a brass Vulcan bridge direct from SLM which came on a card that was sealed and plastic shrink wrapped which kept it dry during shipment;

This explains the black controllers on my X340 and the pickguard change.

I still wonder about the black control knobs that were originally on the X330 .....

I think that someone may have exchanged them with another Electra at the music store where I bought these.

This was really no problem - as the control knobs were in mint condition when the purchases were made.

I still keep looking for an original X330 with black control knobs - if such a thing exists.

I also changed the stop tailpieces on each to the Gibson TP6 tailpieces with fine tuners.
