Wanted to say hello to all, post a pic of my small lineup. I've probably had 20+ Electra's over the years, most of which I wish I had back. I work as an HVAC service tech,ex-military,just a hobby player-self taught(and it shows),I caretake a 200 acre farm that serves as a garden club once a month-other 29 days its mine  .I just recently put together a couple of guitars from scratch, enjoyed that immensly-tell me what you think.
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... ion001.jpg

Handmade Hi-Flier Univox copy-walnut body and neck,granadillo fingerboard,dream 90's,cts pots,hovland cap,roller bridge

Handmade Rosewood Telecaster copy-rosewood top over walnut, padauk neck w/cocobolo fingerboard, overwound paf and overwound tele bridge, cts pots, hovland cap

My electras-
2270c
2259 w/mmk 45s
2256
2264 with a pj marx blade humbucker (can't believe how great it sounds-no,really!!)
x935 just got it,great player-needs a little cosmetic work

I'll get more pics up when it gets a little warmer out.
Joe

Cool group!

The mosrite/hi-flyer thing looks pretty hip. Is it heavy?

Thanks, pales in comparison to most. The Hi-Flier copy is surprisingly light-routered as much control cavity as possible, body is 1 1/2" thick walnut, slightly heavier than Univox. The sustain and warmth more than makeup for the added weight. Now the rosewood tele copy is a beast-first one I put together, had some sort of vaporlock :toopid: -3/4" rosewood top,3/4"walnut back=les paul plus a few, definitely a sit-downer. I have 3 bookmatched 3/8" rosewood top plate sets and one koa set, would like to do an original or at least not something done to death-ideas?

I've never seen a 2256 with a maple (?) stripe down the center, very cool looking, is that a rarity or a common variant? Wouldn't the Hi Flier be considered a Mosrite copy? Glad to see that the X935 found a good home. 20 Electras is an impressive feat, even if you've let them go, did you have any SLM connections there in St. Louis? Something different huh, how about a Brian May 'Big Red' tribute? Good stuff man, thanks for sharing, Mike.

Very nice collection! As for the other sets of wood, you could make the Rick police hate you and make a Rick copy, but to be original with it maybe use a 4001 body for a guitar? Lots of bass bodies never get matched with guitar necks, so anything along those lines might be fun- Jazzcaster maybe? Or copy an Electra original perhaps?

Not to get totally off topic, but Rick did make a six string guitar with the 'cresting wave' 4001 shape, I want to say it was called the 480... I had one back in the 80's, had a completely flat fretboard like a mandolin (would that be considered an infinite radius?), pretty funky, maybe it would have been good for slide, although I stink with a slide. They also made one with the short lived 'slanted frets', I think that was the 481.

I still think that 2256 kicks @ss! An Electra Original..? How about a fancy X120 Leslie West with exotic wood..?

Electra only had like 4 or 5 totally original body styles, and I think the Leslie West is the rarest, Mike.

Oooh...a koa top X120 copy with matching headstock, nice :hyper: But I really like the 4001 idea-kick@ss lines :hyper: Very cool, some great ideas-anybody a vintage or present Framus fan? They had some nice original designs and the present day Tennessee Custom, beveled body with a bigsby. Pickups? After thinking about the bass style body/guitar neck,I think the ergonomics would come into play-alot of those bodies are configured to balance the longer neck and weight. I think thats why I like the mosrite/univox body style so much, great balance and feel.(Yes,proendorser-correctly its a mosrite copy, but didn't know how many would be familiar with the Ventures, certainly most with Cobain! Man,I'm gettin' old!) :(

Joe -

What a great collection!

That 2256 is really beautiful; I've never seen one like that!

Thanks RCSblues,it's the only one I've ever seen with the maple stripe. It does have a few finish chips on the back edges, but a great player and almost all original except for some replaced saddles  The Jacaranda top makes the guitar, really love some of the exotic woods-though I just aquired a nice airbrush setup, possibly some sunbursts or one-off colored tints in the future  Need more input on body styles, more unique the better! Now that I think about it,I have a B5 bigsby and roller bridge here somewhere.....

The X340 bridge replacement was a Workingman / Ultima brass bridge ordered new from SLM back in the day.
