As some of my Electra friends know, I play a thrice-weekly solo gig at a restaurant during lunch, 135 minutes, nonstop, just me and the, um, music. I do 40s stuff, 70s pop, basically anything but the usual acoustic-set stuff. On a given day I might play "Key To The Highway", "The Nearness Of You", and "Thriller".

I've been picking up $10-15 a set in tips playing my Godin LGX-SA guitars. Today I decided to play my red Futura. I got the ODDEST looks all day from people coming in. I learned that the combination of MMKs and a Fender Acoustisonic is not so great. Without the coil tap it drives the amp too hard and with the coil tap it's awfully thin.

Still, I played as well (meaning badly) as I normally do. My total tips? one dollar! Sorry, Futura, but you're staying home next time.

On the positive side, it's such a wonderful, light, easy-to-play guitar... maybe if I just lowered the music stand so people couldn't see it...

Maybe it's the material..? With that guitar you should try:

I can't drive 55
We're not gonna take it
Red House
Little Red Corvette
Don't it make my Brown eyes Red

It's cool that you gave it a shot though, Mike.

Nah...just get a shipping box with slightly larger dimensions than the body - cut a hole or two for the neck and strings and cable and whatnot, close it up - and call yourself Bo Diddley!

Don't know if it will reverse the ebbing tip trend, but it would be hilarious to see....

Here I though he got a deal using his tip money to buy a futura!

Yeah, some of the pointier hair band guitars in super bright colors are still not well accepted, as I expect the other guitar a much better sonic match with that amp combo. I expect in about 10 years they will be more popular. If 70s gibson and fenders can be worth a lot, then guitars with Japanese flags and other spandex era oddities will increase in value. Probably the next thing to collect!
