Sad as it sounds, I traded up my old 05 LPC for these two. The hs repair on the Gibby made it a more-or-less even trade, and at the end of the day, the LPC's neck profile just made my left hand sore. Off to a better home, and the new owner couldn't be happier.

77 X410 Jazz Strad. As good or better than my 77 Ibanez 2630 in some ways. The Ibby has real ebony and jumbos and I'm partial to the Ibanez hardware, but this thing's stock pickups are FAR superior (louder, less abrasive, and not microphonic like the Ibby's Super 80s), plus tortoiseshell binding, the centerblock fits the top and back better (less feedback from the them resonating) and it's a hair lighter. Very comfy and I dig! I've been playing it almost constantly for the last 2 days. :hyper:

...and the REAL score, an 82 Greco Hamer Standard copy. Everybody knows that they copied the hell out of Gibsons and Fenders, even Rics, but the toggle ring, binding, traps, even the trc all scream "Hamer." I had to have it. Mahogany body/neck, rosewood, original Double Trick pickups, nickel plated hardware, ABR-1 style bridge (!!!!), and factory jumbo frets with binding nibs! This thing totally rips. The bad stuff...I have no idea what the red stuff is or how the HELL to get rid of it. It looks like somebody tried to rattlecan it red or pink and then later tried to remove it. I figure the scraped up areas are likely where stickers were, before the red abomination. Regardless, were it not for that, I never would have been able to own such a rare guitar. I've never seen or even heard of another. Again, very, very comfy, probably about 8lbs with the classic 70s Japanese neck profile, a nice thin-ish C.

I think that was a darn good swap. Congrats on the deal. Anybody that doesn't love those 410s is nuts.

That guitar is beautiful! The book matched tiger/curly maple gets me every time! Good score!!

Not bad on the Greco either. So the Greco is a copy of a Hamer, which is a copy of a Gibson Explorer?

You might try mineral spirits on the red paint. If that doesn't cut it you can add a little laquer thinner to some mineral spirits. Straight laquer thinner will cut it, but it will also melt all the other finishes on the guitar, and bite into the plastic too.

I guess you could reference the Hamer in that the original Gibson Explorer didn't have binding on the body.

The old Greco and Ibanez "explorer" type guitars are really cool.

See what I mean? This one's so old it's got a bell trc, but my 04 Hamer Standard Custom has the same shape as the Greco. Just a kinda neat oddball copy.

Looks like the 410 will likely be up for sale when I get back from my current deployment. Being in Navy housing I just don't have the room that I used to, so I guess it'll be time to pare it down around April-ish. Anybody looking for one of these in this kind of condition?

You will find a LOT of interest in the 410 around here, it's beautiful.

PM me when you're ready to let it go, my "loot" should be ripe for the plucking right about then. :toopid:
