What would it be? APII have the PE, Vantage the VA9XX series and Westone the Panteras which were the top of the line, all singing all dancing models - what would the Electra headliner be? Not the rarest, or most expensive but the knock-down, drag-out best for quality?? All the other Matsumoku brands had 'em; why not Electra??

I think there's a thread in here dealing with this but I'm buggered if I can find it!! :toopid:

From the MPC range, I would have to say:
- Outlaw model, due to it's original design, neck thru and solid wood features.
- X810, due to the semi hollow construction and fancy laminate and inlay.

Non-MPC:
- 2281 Elvin Bishop
- X935 Endorser

I couldn't narrow it down any further than that.

YMMV.

Let's see what Jack puts on the cover of the book.

My vote is for the 740

Of course NOW I'm reading the original subject line more closely and realize you specified SOLID body, yet I mentioned the semi's. Feel free to ignore half of what I say.

Even specifying Solid Body there are still lots of categories possible... Original or Copy Body Style, MPC or Active or Passive Electronics, Archtop or slab body, etc. I'm partial to the Endorser in the Original group:

Although the Outlaw's with the neck through design was a gutsy and no doubt expensive guitar to make:

The X110 Rock Strad is a striking guitar, still don't understand why it wasn't a set neck:

Both the Vulcan and Ultima MPC's would have been considered top 'o the line as well. It's a tough choice, Mike.

I think the X189 all the way.

My plan right now for the book cover is to do a black background with a wave MPC headstock, maybe showing the brass nut since that ended up being an "Electra feature" for so many years.

I'm still kicking myself for letting an Elvin go last year on eBay.

So many good ones...... The signature would have to be the Outlaw. It's an original all the way. The X140 Ash body is a great utilitarian axe that won't break the bank. The X270 is high on my list and pretty unique.

OK... originally - in the 80s - which of these actually cost the most to buy in a shop?! The Endorser takes a few styling cues from the APII PEs, I reckon, which were set neck; the VA9xx and top Panteras were neck thru and very expensive.

Outlaw looks good, I've got to say and robot.dr; you're the man, although the Spectrum/Phoenix range, with all the best intentions, aren't in the ballpark!!

Even though I don't own one -

Any of the Vulcans X920, X930, X940, or X950 get my vote in the MPC line -

These are what the MPC line evolved into.

But then again I haven't gotten to play either an Outlaw MPC or an X910 Explorer MPC yet .....

To be continued.
