I recently picked up an Invicta and was really surprised how great this guitar sounds! I played a local gig this weekend and ended up taking the Invicta instead of my Les Paul, and had a great time. The original pickups (Magnaflux??) sound terrific and the neck joint and access to upper frets are very comfortable.

This is also my first instrument with one volume and two tone controls, and I love that configuration. I like to roll off and otherwise manipulate the tone on the bridge pickup and leave the neck tone mostly alone, and this is so nice flipping back and forth without having to worry about a second volume control.

Am interested in other's experience with the Invicta X260. I've got 4 other Electras and this one sounds the best to me and the feel and playability are terrific - I don't want to put it down. I'll be changing out the pots and input jack this week - kind of noisy and unpredictable - am going with CTS 500k pots for tone and a RS Guitarworks 500K Superpot for the volume. Going with Vitamin Q tone caps.

Anyway, I am having a nice experience with the Invicta; wanted to see how others on the forum compare it to other Electra models. Did I just get a good one, or is the Invicta a standout?

I have never had any problems with any of my Invecta models. My favorite is the X260N. They all play and sound great. they have a rich full tone and with the coil tap offer a great single coil sound as well. They are lightweight and comfortable to play for extended time( you never seem to want to put them down). Necks are very nice and easy to maneuver. Great resonant tone even while unplugged. Overall an exceptional value for an exceptional guitar. 8)

Is the 260N different? Do you know what kind of pickups mine likely has?
Thanks

X260N is almost same guitar in Natural ash finish as seen in this forum photo. Pickups are MMks and are very nice and very powerfull.

Try some contact cleaner on those pots before you replace them. Changing pots and caps will change the sound.

Radio Shack sells Caig Deoxit DN5 which is supposed to be great for those noisy pots -

It's might seem a little high but well worth it.

It's cheaper than new pots - and a quicker "solution" to the problem:

Thanks. Thats exactly what I got, and it worked great. No noise at all.

I saw in the catelog link above that the X260 is solid mahogany with ash veneer. The top on mine has a subtle flame, looks almost like a veneer over the mahogany is so thin that some flame appears but the mahogany grain is dominant. Actually looks like the body wood could have been burned on a planer but the pattern is chevron. I don't know that I've seen flamed ash before. Any history on these? The neck also appears to be solid mahogany except for the headstock wings.

Anyway, it sounds nice. Thanks for waking me up to fixing the pots.

A fraction of the stained Invicta's (I'd say one out of every ten or twelve...) have the Flamed Maple veneer, so that's a rarity, enjoy it! I have always thought they looked pretty sharp. I would not take sales or pricing literature as Gospel, and we've all found discrepancies in product descriptions before. While some of their claims may have been true at the time of introduction, those things can change as production continues. I'm still looking for an Outlaw with a Ebony fretboard, which is what all the literature says, but again, I've yet to actually see one! Neck should be a three piece Maple (with two wings at the top as you describe), but who knows. I'm still not that good at identifying wood species. Cheers, Mike.

The flame is subtle but there. How do I go about putting pics up? I'll take a few shots and put em up. The only real downside with the guitar is a nasty chunk out of the headstock. Even so, a guy came up to me at my gig friday night and asked if it was a PRS! I was stunned.... Definitely a newbie, but he was nice and very interested in gear and I always like talking about gear...

My supercharged X730 has ebony - A little hard to tell but it's true.

OK, here's a go at adding some pics:

See how the flame top (doesn't really look like maple) appears so thin as to be translucent (maybe why it doesn't look like maple), showing the grain of the body wood? I love this frickin neck joint -very comfortable, good access, and elegant. Neck wood looks like mahogany to me.

Shame about the headstock wound!
