Post subject: chrome pickguards on Workingman models

I posted an ebay link for an x290 recently which has a chrome pickguard. I have since seen 3 additional axes for sale on ebay or CL and all have the same pickguard in either chrome or poorly maintained metal. Was this a factory option? One reply on the auction watch post was that this was an add-on only.
