The rotary switch:
Pos 1 - Both pups in series, in phase
Pos 2 - Bridge only
Pos 3 - Both pups in parallel in phase
Pos 4 - Neck only
Pos 5 - both pups in series, out of phase

So, with an Omega and the 2 pickup color switches, I count 16 sounds - 4 each for Pos 1,3 & 5 and 2 each for Pos 2 and 4.

I know there were a ton of combinations on some 3 way switch models like X185's but I no longer have one to experiment with. Ditto for Ultima's and Endorsers. I think MPC Vulcans had just the 5 standard switch positions.

I'm thinking the Studio Zephyr with the 6 Pos rotary and 3 way must be the king of combos. But just how many combos are there?????

If anyone has any details on the combo's they have - please post the info. The most I can figure on 3 ways with coil tap and phase split is 8 combos????

We worked on the Zephyr combinations at Electrafest but lost count. With the 3 way and 6 way ther are very subtle changes but still changes so difficult to count them all. The XV3GR also has numerous sound combinations as it has the 3 push pulls and a 3 way.

mathematically, for max combinations of settings, it's as simple as.

Omega: 5 x 2 x 2 = 20 max settings, but as you point out, some of the first 5 settings eliminate one pup, rendering the related color switch settings useless.
Then you throw a tone pot on top of those....

MPC: 5 x 2 x 2 = 20 max, but with tone and speed control for the modules...

Studio Zephyr: 6 x 3 = 18 max settings, etc...

XV3GR: 3 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 24 max settings, etc...

Copy and Pasted from another thread about Redeye's Dynasty, I count 18 different options:

Neck pickup:
Neck Pickup in Humbucking
Neck Pickup in Single Coil
Neck Pickup w/ middle in Humbucking
Neck Pickup w/ middle in Single Coil

Bridge:
Bridge Pickup in Humbucking
Bridge Pickup in Single Coil
Bridge Pickup w/ middle in Humbucking
Bridge Pickup w/ middle in Humbucking out of phase
Bridge Pickup w/ middle in Single Coil
Bridge Pickup w/ middle in Single Coil out of phase

Both Pickups:
Both Pickups in Humbucking
Both Pickups in Humbucking out of phase
Both Pickups in Single Coil
Both Pickups in Single Coil out of phase
Both Pickups w/ middle in Humbucking
Both Pickups w/ middle in Humbucking out of phase
Both Pickups w/ middle in Single Coil
Both Pickups w/ Middle in Singe Coil out of phase

Bottom line is that many of these options are very subtle, with little difference to my worked over ears. Maybe some studio Ninja could use them all, but I don't want to have to think too hard to dial something in either in the studio or on stage.

My favorite setup is the Endorser with coilcut and phase options (also found on X155, X165, some X420 Custom Pros, possibly others). Eight unique tones that are easy to get to and are cleverly concealed in the tone pots.

My thoughts, too; I have a few Matts with the h/s/h setup and working the switches and listening for the changes in some cases was an exercise in futility for these old ears! :D I think even a studio ace would hardly bother these days; if they want a sound, they'll get the engineer to dial something in on the digital array!!!!
That said, I love the fact that Matt had the balls to put these instruments together and sell them.

My Omega (named Amigo) has about 8 sounds that are quite usable, distinct, and different. I should really write down the positions because I can never remember them.
