Welcom to the Electra Forums. Nice score on a very nice lookin Axe. Beware the Electra EGAS that lurks here. These are great instruments and a pleasure to play which leads one to egas and more Electras. Welcome and enjoy.

A nice example there, thanks for sharing. What are the first three serial numbers, and how much does it weigh? I have a really early model (Jan 1980) that is over nine pounds! The heaviest of all my X200's. What do you think of the active preamp? I tend to keep it on all the time and just roll off the active volume for clean passages.

I used to bang the preamp on for leads and loud passages. Pretty much just dimed the whole thing and kicked in the extra volts for more punch. As for the weight - they're beefy alright - but the sustain I used to get out of the X270 was pretty much unmatched. Add a little compression and you could hold a note all night long. My worst Electra moment was when I sold that guitar.

Thanks mortarman, I'm already wanting the passive model. This one, everything works and it's all original, so I'll leave it be. I'd love to have another to try different p/ups in.

Np, the first 4 are 0011XX and the weight is 9lbs 3ozs on my shipping scale.

I didn't think I'd like the powered EQ, but it's growing on me. I've only had about 2 hours with it since I got it, and an hour of that was cleaning it up, tightening a few screws and nuts, and setting it up with fresh strings. I need to spend more time with it, but the EQ did sound much better after I lowered the p/ups.

Very nice indeed. This inspector stayed very busy at SLM as most of the labels we see have the Lopez name. Great Electra Congratulations.

Thanks guys. I went over it and tightened everything up. Initially, the action was right about where I'd set it on a Strat. I tend to like it a bit high. I also use 12's w/a third wound on my strat, tuned a half step down.

But I threw some 10's on the X 270 and lowered the action way down. It's lower than any guitar I've owned and I'm amazed at how little fret buzz there is. I expected it to be much worse.

Only nit so far is the volume knob. I'm getting comfortable playing the X270, but I'm hitting the volume knob. So I was wondering if a guard would be feasible ?

I'm thinking a guard that would connect to the pot like these position markers, and would have enough metal to shield about 1/3rd of the knob, specifically the area where one would brush across it. (curved to follow contour of the knob) That would still allow easy adjustment of the control as well as volume swells.

Crazy idea..or not ?
