As some of you know, I have been in a garage rock band called Holy Hounds for the past couple years, however, what nobody on here knew is that I also co-own the record label and skateboarding company, SAY-10 (http://www.say-10.com). Anyway, I decided to put Holy Hounds to sleep (pun intended) for now and start a band that I could focus on up here in Michigan (my drummer lived in Virginia Beach, so you can imagine how hard it was to practice or play shows).

This new band is called Vanlord. I went into the studio on December 22nd for my first day of recording on my new album, produced in a really great studio by one of my favorite singers on the label's dime.

On this first day, I got all of my acoustic tracks complete with a 1976 Applause A/E acoustic (mine) for the brighter tones, and a 70's Gibson jumbo acoustic (studio's) for the fuller/deeper tones. After that we switched over to the electrics. Started off using my Electra Tele that I just purchased from Joe. Ran it through an Orange Tiny Terror, tube distortion, and also a Fender "The Twin" (studio's). Never in my life have I found a better tone that I did with the Orange and Fender '65 Re-Issue pick-up in the Tele. I didn't want to stop playing. I really didn't like the MMK45 through the Orange, but had better luck through the The Twin, even though we didn't record with it. After that, I pulled out my ultra-modded Super Rock to do the solo dubs. (I also did bass on the song, but that was with my Fender Jazz).

I was originally supposed to get back into the studio on December 26th, but things got cancelled and now I am going back in to do vocals, some piano dubs, and percussion tomorrow night. I'll post the song here once I get it back, but all of this will be compiled into an album that will be released this Spring via SAY-10. So, I'm looking at at least 15 more recording sessions.

- Matt
