Well this is pretty cool. I had no idea that Electra had such a cult following. I bought my x280 workingman new in '83 in Meridian, Miss. It proved to be a good companion through the Navy and years beyond. I set it aside for awhile as I bought my Fenders, Gibsons, Ibanez, Epiphones, etc... picked it up again recently to play it at church service on a whim and was pleasantly amazed to feel how well it played and how good it sounded. My 280 and I have a lot of hours together and it fits like a comfortable pair of shoes. I even have the original bill of sale, guarantee brochure, case, and a few pics along the years to show our history. Aside from a few dings, scrapes, and a small dent or two, it is still in good condition. I figure we have both aged a little! It sure is nice to discover a hidden treasure under my very own nose. I will try to post some pics later.

Welcome! I really like the Workingman model and am currently kicking myself for having recently sold yet another. Someday I'll wise up, get another, and keep it. Members please take note - permission is hereby granted to inflict gratuitous bodily harm to me if I don't keep my next Workingman. Sheesh....but I digress. Workingman - love'em and really appropriate name. Once again, welcome.

Yes....welcome. Glad you finally found us and joined in. This is a wonderful forum loaded with great folks. Very little flamin goes on here, so you can be sure that you'll get honest answers to any questions you may have concerning a wide range of stuff Electra....without the bored folks BS you find in other forums.

I've never owned or even played a workingman...gotta do something about that.

Welcome aboard - I do not own a Workingman, but I always take a look at them;

JD - I thought you owned all - if not most - Electra models.

Welcome to the Forums and glad to hear you were united with an old friend again. After playing it again now you can understand why you kept it all these years instead of selling it long ago. The workingman models are a simple no frills get the job done guitar that plays and sounds great.Enjoy and welcome to the forums.

The X280 is a cool little ride, if not understated. The early ones were made of Mahogany, more commonly they were made from planks of Ash and Maple laminated top to bottom. Interestingly, only the Workingman had separate Volume knobs for each pickup in the X200 line. Here is the rest of the X200's in case you're curious, Left to Right top row X250, X260, X260n L-R Bottom row X270, X280, X290:

Take a look around, I bet you'll find something else on this site that sparks your interest too. Cheers, Mike.

I am afraid I do seem to have quite a few Electras but with the awesome selection and lineup Electra offered I am not even close to owning every model and color but I am indeed working on that goal. Great to have you in the forums and awesome lineup Mike. Thanks Arthur aka mortarman120gang11c

I know Arthur has "some" of the market cornered -

Maybe I meant to say that if anyone could FIND and Electra of any model it would be JD, or Arthur, or Mike ..........

Just the same - JD - you have some great axes;

Given my name here you can probably tell I like the Workingman model. Mine is made of at least three pieces of mahogany.

Thanks for all of the welcome responses. Looks like you guys like to talk about guitars in a civil tone..I like that...I don't make room for gossip and mean intentions anymore. I am not sure if my 280 is an earlier model or a late one. It looks like it is constructed the same as the lower middle 280 in proendorser's photo. You guys have some cool looking axes and I'll bet they play as well as they look. I've got 18 guitars myself, all different makes and models, but I want to thin out the crowd a little to just the ones I really love, and yes, the Electra will always be a keeper. I have poured myself out over and over again playing that guitar and it has very good vibes soaked into the wood- call it "Emotionally seasoned". Still looking for pics over the years.
