I found this Electra (It's a X165.. thanks for the correction below) in metallic purple today. It is obviously well-used, but the seller is asking less than $200 for it. I have recently gotten the itch for these guitars, but I don't know much about them yet. I very much would like to own one, and I know a lot of the value in something like this is completely subjective... but what do you guys think? Is that a reasonable price to pay? Any comments or opinions about this particular one, from what you can see in the pics? Thanks.

That's a X165 in Purple, which was an available finish according to the Index. The four knobs in a diamond (Gibby) pattern being the difference between a X135 and this. A step up from the X135 in that it has a push pull for phase reverse in addition to the coilcut push/pull. I believe all the hardware would have been black during that period, so I have a feeling that the vibrato bridge has been changed... not the end of the world.

I think its a good deal for $180. It's been rode hard and put up wet, so it probably wont appreciate that much in the coming years, but having a guitar that you don't worry about putting more dings in is a nice luxury. Assuming the neck is straight and the frets are ok, these guitars will compete with most any Strat and have more sounds available... eight to be exact:

Neck Humbucker
Neck Single coil
Both Humbucker
Both Single coil
Both Humbucker out of phase
Both Singles out of phase
Bridge Humbucker
Bridge Single coil

soooo, a pretty versatile workhorse, and the 2 vol/2 tone controls you don't see often from Electra. Good luck, Mike.

I'd have the darn thing in a heartbeat! Very nice, regardless of the knocks and scrapes....

yes I also saw this one and considered it but I am currently trying to make room for more so I passed. These are great guitars and are very tough and versatile. The necks are my favorite part and they do feel much like a strat style neck only better in my opinion. At this price and condition I would grab it and give her a try. Hard to go wrong at that price as the pickups and parts are worth almost the asking price and she can be played and enjoyed without fear of a scratch or ding. These are a bit on the heavy side as the maple wood is heavy but the tone is great. Good Luck
