I recently purchased an Electra MPC X310 from a local music store (for 325!!), all original except for aftermarket tuners, and after reading the site, I wasn't quite sure of the year of it. The guitar has the cut-out headstock, but it's serial number is 08222. I was under the impression that this meant it was a '78, but blurb about serial numbers on the MPC page says that it's most likely an 1980. I was under the impression that the headstocks were all the wave style by then. Thoughts? Thanks!

due to the fact that the guitars were made in various factories, only some of them actually contain date info. the Phoenix body series, some of the high end semis, some later Wave headstock LP style. The cut-out style is probably around '75-ish...

The 'cutout' headstocks are from mid 1976, by 1977 they would all have transitioned to the Wave style. RCS has a Semi with the cutout which has the hoshino style serial which dates it to I think June of 1976. By 1980 even the bodies would be original as SLM tries to distance itself from the copy guitar reputation it had acquired.
