I'm new to the scene and was wondering how hard it is to find the pre-76 Electras for decent money? I've seen a few show up and the prices range from $125 all the way into the thousands, and I don't know what's worth what amount or if there are certain models that are more valuable or if it's just a matter of people guestimating a value and hoping for the best.

My dream find is a 1973 2250 Bass that needs a little cleaning up so that I can work on a neat little project that I dreamed up. It seams like finding a specific year or model is like trying to find a needle in the pacific ocean though.

The 2250 model does not come up too often on ebay or craigslist. I remember only 2-3 in the last couple of years. The last one that came up was pretty bad, lots of dings and it was gutted of parts if I remember correctly. That is a pretty fun model and the desire of most people for that one is generally not that high. Keep looking because some are out there.

Welcome. This being a collector site, you're probably not going to hear a lot of enthusiasm for modifying 40 year old survivors... but as you read above, some are pretty well gutted already, so you can consider it a restoration, or resurrection of sorts. Now that you're a member you can check out the sales spreadsheet, which will give you historical info on sales for how frequently they show up and pricing.

I don't see the LP bass that often, but they aren't considered rare. Patience will be rewarded. Start a thread in the 'Wanted' area, which will stay at the top of the list longer than here in the general discussion forum. Good luck, Mike.

8) Welcome to the forums. The LP Bass models are indeed a bit harder to find. They are out there but just not seen as often as other models. You may see anywhere from 5-10 a year maybe most are usually well played and dinged models or have been parted out to some sort. I will keep an eye out for one and will post it if I see it as I also have it on my list of wanted models. Good Luck in your search and welcome. Arthur aka mortarman120gang11c

the LP bass is one of only 2 short scale Electra SLM basses (outside of the Violin bass, and a few different PCM basses). the stock pickups are single coils in a HB case. and seem to be prone to the winding-to-lead connection coming apart (fixable though). the top is arched for some hollow area inside the body, but I wouldn't call it chambered... but it did make it pretty light as I recall.... the Aria branded one looks nearly identical....

Welcome!

See I didn't even know those were LP Basses. This is the info that I have trouble finding which makes it tricky to search.

Just so people know the reason for my particular search.........I currently drive a 1973 Buick Electra 225. I also play bass guitar. So a 1973 Electra 2250 bass customized to match the car would just be too perfect for words.

I once saw one on the Indianapolis Craigslist for around $200 - lit the guy's mailbox up - wanted it badly - he never responded. :(
