I have a beautiful Electra 510 Howard Roberts model and just wondering if anyone has ever tried switching out the floating pick-up with something like a vintage DeArmond.
Am looking for a less generic sounding pickup, more focussed tone, a hotter pickup. I suppose someone could re-wire the existing pickup but seems like more of a hassle with back and forth shipping, experimenting, etc.

You very lucky to have one - sure would like to see some pics;

Can't help you with your pickup issue - I would have to take it to someone more qualified -

Welcome aboard.

As long as the mounting systems are compatible, you should not have a problem.

Hey 510...welcome to the forums. I love those 510's myself, but they are indeed something you have to grow comfortable with. I used the "Attila Zoller" by Shadow on one of mine and was quite happy with it, although you may find it a bit mellow for your own style.

Here's what it looked like mounted:

Hey RCS,
I had no luck uploading photos via this forum. After uploading the pics were nowhere to be found so I'm trying via "dropbox". Let's see if that works or send me an email address. Thx

Workingman - thanks for input.

JD - A friend of mine has the Attila Zoller in his vintage Guild archtop, ( I forget the model)and it smokin'. Good suggestion and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the vintage DeArmond Rhythm Chief. I've got a couple of Lindy Fralin floating pickups on 2 other archtop guitars and they're quite good but I'm thinking of something more responsive. Thanks again! Wait a minute... just checked out your collection...WTF?...!!! Is this your private collection and/or a your store? Wow!
Another friend has an old Ibanez lawsuit archtop, similar to an L5. I'll have to ask him which model it is. Do you know?

Quite the arsenal!!!

Ibanez 2461.....and yep, that was part of my personal collection. I've since sold off the vintage Ibanez side and concentrate mostly on Electras now.
