Hello, I just purchased a pre-lawsuit X330 in excellent condition but it is missing the serial sticker on the back of the headstock. Is there any other place to find serial info on these guitars?

I tried the pot with no luck but some times the battery straps have a date and the mpc edge card connectors also. has to be a 75 or older. Post a pic!

From the photo of the cut out headstock I would be very confident to date this one a 1977-78 as they were using up all the open book headstocks they had left(they did the oval cutout in order to be legal). After 1977-78 all were the wave headstocks. Nice X330 Congrats.

Ah, so this one is post-lawsuit (or mid-lawsuit)? I will check the MPC connectors when it arrives. I was just hoping to find a serial#, or identifier, that might be available for "superstitious" purposes.

Why do my wave head stock 310s have a 76 date on the edge card and my 350 waver has 77? I thought I read waves started in 76?

Hard to say exactly when the wave started but would have been after all the cut out necks etc were used up. The dates on the connectors are most likely correct as well but would be the date of their manufacture and would have been on hand when the guitars were produced. The exact dates without the serial numbers are a bit tough to determine since Uncle Matt has no available serial number information.

Another note is if that year guitar had the foil sticker on the neck it would not have any usefull info that we know of. Check where Mortarman and Shackleton have suggested. Also since these werent made that long it has a small window of production between when they started stamping serial #s on the back of the neck and the open book head stock was notched out.

But it looks to be in great shape, congrats on this one.

So, it arrived yesterday in great condition. There isn't any printing on the cloth battery straps but the Blue MPC connectors are dated May '76 so that's the closest thing to a serial # to date it. The fretboard was black and the woodgrain was deep so I took some 500 grit and smoothed the wood down, treated with fretboard oil, and restrung it. And I just don't like the feel of the shiny neck so I took some 1500 grit and gave it a "satin" finish, nice and smooth.

Took her out for a spin with the Phaser and Overdrive modules, what a gas! I have it at work - pushing thru a Mackie 1604 VLZ with no effects- and I can get about 40 different voices out of this thing, what a sweet guitar! I picked up an early epoxy module on eBay that the PO thinks is a Compressor (no sticker) so I'm anxious to hear what it does. It also came with a FrogNose module which really boosts the gain but doesn't give any more flavor than the Overdrive. Now I'm looking for the Filter Follower, Dynamic Fuzz, and Flanger modules - wish me luck. Also, how do you get Thorny's Overdrive Mods? MIne is an epoxy unit so I'm guessing you can't hop it up…

Its not a compressor its a power overdrive, no compressors came in the resin in cased modules and they have a switch on the top. .

can't easily get into those epoxy brick type to mod them, and if I did and managed not to destroy it, I could not put the same epoxy resin back - so I don't mod those. You'll need the beige plastic box type in order to be modified. Looks like a NICE find though. Good luck. That one looks brand new.

And if you find a real compressor module, those are probably one of my favorite modules.

Hi Sweet looking guitar,but it's not a pre lawsuit model. I think it's a 76 or a77 model . One of the pics shows a 76 on the edge of the module plugs,and the headstock style is not the open book type,but the second version ,which Dean adopted for many of their guitars,which came out before they started using the wave headstock. I believe that headstock design is the rarest of the three based on my observations. Looks to be in great condition! Plug her in and PLAY!!
