I picked up this beauty at a guitar show. Its a 1982 westone paduak I made at matsumoku. Best neck i think ive ever owned. Plays and feels like a phoenix. The previous owner swapped the pickup out for a Gibson classic 57. In doing so it was rewired passive so the boost switch does nothing but the coil splitter works. Wondering if any pickup can be used in conjunction with the battery powered boost control. Or do i need the original pickup?

The electra x140 dates to dec 81 and the westone mid82. They weigh about the same but the westone's body is smaller with a thicker neck(a better neck imo). Looks like alot of the same parts were used.

Those are so cool, congrats! Is the original circuit still in there? May be an almost homemade looking board. Should work with any pickup.

What's fascinating to me is that it appears to have the bent-brass bridge of the early Phoenixes with the non-barrel adjusters of the LATE Phoenixes.

Look at the Phoenix next to it, which has the late setup.

I did not know the Paduak existed but I'll be looking for one now!

They even made a Phoenix like that. SUPER rare! Looks amazing.
