Hello to all. Thanks for participating in this forum. I feel compelled to share my Electra story with others who understand the magnetic attraction of these beautiful and wonderfully innovative guitars.
In 1978 my parents bought me my first "real" guitar. I had owned two electric guitars prior, a National "Tele" copy and a Hondo "SG" copy (both were pretty poorly ). My first "real" guitar was a beautiful sunburst Electra Omega model guitar. I loved that guitar. Nothing but great memories of that one. It looked amazing, stayed in tune and sounded and played as good or better than anything you could get in 1978. I eventually would trade it in to buy a 1968 LesPaul custom in 1982. I havent stopped thinking about that Electra all these years later.
Well, i finally picked up another 1978 Electra Omega. This ones an x210 model (blk with gold hardware). Its a "basketcase" guitar that has been badly abused in its life. I am currently working hard to get it back in beautiful, functional condition. This will be my tribute to my wonderful parents (RIP) who supported all of my musical endeavors without pause or question.
My tribute Omega will have a black cherry finish with gold hardware and clear lucite knobs and pickguard. The electronics will be unique as well. There will be a traditional 3 way switch where the 6 pos switch would normally go. There will be two control knobs and a 6 pos switch located in the control cavity....a master volume, master tone and a 6 position inductor tone stack with a bypass.
I know that this is not a restoration. It may upset some folks that i am making this so different from its original form. Please be assured, this guitar was in really bad shape (headstock broken in three pieces, binding broken badly and painted with nail polish, top poorly routed for trem and 3rd pickup). If i had not rescued this guitar i am quite sure it would have ended up in a dumpster.
Thanks for letting me participate in this forum. I love all things Electra and look forward to sharing the re-birth of my tribute Electra. If anyone has any ideas that might add to this project please share. By the way, my parents names were Esther and George not unlike the "eg" logo. I will stop rambling now.

Welcome to the forums. Thanks for sharing that Electra story. It is always nice to hear of any Electra being saved from the dumpster or fire pit. Keep us posted on your progress and best of luck.

Yelp, there is something special about your first good guitar that took you places the other ones didn't.
You need to document your progress to include before and after pixs.

My first good-un for me was a Montgomery Ward Airline guitar and a Silvertone 1482 amp. What a trip, my first experience of amp breakup and I didn't even know what it was--at the time. I have seen my Airline on e-bay pretty regularly but the prices are so high. I've got two 1482 amp now--not the original one.

Please keep us updated with a progress report.

My first guitar was...

...wait for it...

a blue 1981-build Electra X130.

Still have it.

It's why I'm here. :)

I started playing pretty young. My first "real" guitar was a 1975 2264. Still one of the best playing guitars I have.

Then (1977) and now.

Thanks for the kindness and support. I have been busy working on the tribute Omega. The headstock has been repaired and is looking good. I cut some curly maple for the neck binding and glued and sanded it. It looks great. I have put a first color coat on the body and re-filled and sanded all the tore up body binding. Next step will be color base. I have pics....spent time trying to post here but no sucess.
