I have model 2229 Electra guitar. Ser.-0153569. Can anyone tell me how to find when it was made? How many? Great guitar, but I know very little about it. I can post photos, if someone can tell me how. I am not very computer smart.

Only found in the 1972 Catalog, between 1972 and 1975 is as close as you pinpoint it. Saint Louis Music was using multiple manufacturers then and the neck plate serial numbers are inconclusive as far as dating. Maybe someone can chime in with the manufacturing origins, I tend to let the guitar speak for itself regardless of pedigree. Almost no production numbers are known prior to the '80s. The 2229 seem to be a cut above, but the overall reputation of these bolt-neck Hollowbodies are less than glowing.

The neck pocket can warp, resulting in high action and bad intonation. This frail design, either by materials, lack of care or age has resulted in the majority of these 40+ year old guitars being all but unplayable. Some real nice players have managed to survive, as mine in the video above can attest. Post some pictures and tell us if everything is still there and works! Cheers, Mike.
