Does anyone know if the Electra guitars from the 70s used a lacquer or a urethane finish? I'm looking at a X410 and it's absolutely gorgeous (nicer than some of my ES-335's), but I highly prefer nitrocellulose over a polyurethane finish. Unfortunately it's online so I'm unable to tell by the pictures and the owner does not know. I know some may say, "who cares?" But I've owned several poly guitars in the past and when compared to my lacquer guitars I enjoy the feel of nitro lacquer over poly. The only guitar I own now that's not flash or nitro lacquer is a '94 PRS 10 Top. They use some type of mixed special urethane. It may just be a mental thing but the poly just has a plastic like feel to me. So before I drop over a grand on a guitar, I'd like to know what finish they used or use. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

pretty sure it was poly. having stripped a few of them it's a royal pain, however, the x410, being more of a premium guitar, may have been different, but doubtful....

Thank you for the info. I wish I knew a little more about them.

Not sure about all of the Electra range, but the Westones and APIIs I've restored/rebuilt from the same era have had a poly finish - Imron, from memory. The finish on the Westones especially was about 1mm+ thick in places and proper arse to remove!

On my current Vantage project I resorted to a propane burner to remove the paint....
