Hi All,

Does anybody know how to serial number date this Electra 2270c guitar. The serial number is 0159012. I was thinking 1972, but not sure. Below are a couple links to pictures. I tried embedding the pictures, but had no luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)

They appear in the 1972 catalog and are gone by the release of the 1977 catalog, so there you have it. As stated elsewhere on the forum, there is no rhyme or reason to the neck plate serial numbers and they are useless for dating purposes, the same goes for the foil tag serial numbers, used on many of the MPC models. There are no transition features (that I know of...) for this model as far as hardware or electronics, although finding one with a black pick guard would be a real treat. The one pictured in the catalog had a black guard, all the examples I've seen in the real world have had white guards.

That's it, welcome to the world of vintage Japanese collecting. If it's any consolation, I've never heard anyone suggest that a 1974 model is better than a 1972 or 1976 example, and usually the guitar speaks for itself with respect to quality or playability.
