This is the one on a stand in the bedroom, got it cheap on ebay, moderate neck wear, bad solder joints, missing thru body string ferrule, lotsa dings and nicks arrived with no strings. Fixed what was wrong and threw some new 11's on without really looking at setup and .... WOW! Heavy on the strap, this thing sings like few others, great tone even before plugging it in. Obviously someone else spent some time and or money on this setup at some point, the brass nut is missing (replaced by a well set bone unit), frets are pretty worn, brass bridge has tarnish - all contribute to the mojo. Had it for a while before noticing the crazy faced dude scratched into the back (enhanced in photoshop to make visible). I have a few guitars with graffiti on the back, but this guy is my favorite

Nice!! And your crazy faced dude looks a little like Iron Maiden's Eddie at first glance, eh?!

The 81's have a really nice neck profile, fat and comfortable but my favorite feature is the massive solid brass string through body hardtail bridge, really has great sustain (this one is the heaviest body of all my 5 phoenix guitars). I also have a x-140N from 81 with the same bridge but much lighter (still hefty) body, it also has a great sustain. I have seen later examples of both with the lighter stamped bridge.

I have one of these and it plays great as well. I really like the neck and the tones it can put out. Great score.
