Hi All,

This is my first post. I discovered this forum, while looking for general info about Electra guitars. I appreciate the wealth of info and pics that have been posted here, by the many enthusiasts of these great guitars. Although I don't own one yet, I may have an opportunity to obtain one of the following LP models:

2242
2264N

The overall condition of each is fairly equal, both are reportedly all original and they each have the wave headstock. Unfortunately, I won't have an opportunity to play either before getting it. That said, I'm hoping that the experts here can shed some light on these models and offer a general consensus on which of the two may be the more desirable or a more faithful LP reproduction. Any comparison of the build or pickup quality is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and best to all.

The 2242 is more 'faithful' to the LP design, and frankly are pretty common, we see probably a dozen a year on eBay, and if you're lucky you may spy one on Craigslist (where things are generally less expensive, but you may have to deal with quirky sellers). Not a huge value hit if it has been modified as these rarely sell for more than $350.

I think the 2264n Studio Zephyr is twice the guitar, and probably about 10 times as rare by production figures. I've seen them flirting with the $500 area, so maybe other players regard these as a step up also. Try to get the seller to disclose whether the six way switch is hooked up and operating correctly. The switch is really tiny, has a ton of wiring (like 20 jumpers!) and it would be next to impossible to repair or replace with a modern rotary switch because of all the wiring differences and tiny route in the control cavity. The three way selector switch works just like any Gibson selector, and the six way is wired as:

Position One: Pickups in Parallel, Humbucker
Position Two: Pickups in Parallel, Single Coil
Position Three: Pickups in Series, Humbucker
Position Four: Pickups in Series, Single Coil
Position Five: Pickups out of Phase, Humbucker
Position Six: Pickups out of Phase, Single Coil

So lots of tonal possibilities, here is a quick demo from my collection, Cheers:

Love my 2264n. But it is the older 1975 model.

There's a 2264N Studio Zephyr on ebay now. Asking price is $699

Think I like the 75 zef better than the Invicta looking model. Any certain models you have a likeing for or just wanting a Electra? There are a few of the new models 2013, on bay and they are pretty good guitars but don't pay too much. You an buy those brand new with out the resto headache.
