Hi All,

I have an opportunity to get a 2242 with an open book headstock or an X260 with a wave headstock. Both appear to be all original and are in good condition.

I’m curious to know what the general consensus is regarding these two and which would be considered more desirable among guitarists. Assuming that both are all-original, are there significant differences in the pickups, construction or other features that I should consider. I know that the X260 has a coil tap switch, which is not present on the 2242 and that the 2242 has a bolt-on neck vs the set neck of the X260. Those differences would appear to give an edge to the X260, but I’m curious to know the perspective of the experts here.

Also, please note that I’m primarily a bassist who doubles on guitar for writing and recording.

All other things being equal (condition of components, cosmetics, etc.), in my opinion, the x260 is a vastly superior guitar - even more so if you are looking at an Invicta with the matched flame body. To my ear, the x260 Invicta has a throatier sound with more options available to you. The x260 feels more sturdy and the rounded edges and contours feel better in my hands.

That said, the way it sounds to your ears and feels in your hands are pretty important deciding factors.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve been collecting Japanese basses for many years and I’ve snagged a few guitars along the way, but I had no experience with Electra, so your input was very helpful. After playing the two options, the x260 was the clear winner, but I haven’t ruled out the 2242 as a second choice. They’re both excellent guitars.
