Sorry to say, no. Both of these were before my time.

As I've mentioned before; during the late 70s through the mid-80s, you had several Japanese Trading Company's, M.G., Nanyo Boeki, Moridaira, Hoshino that were sending their sales guys to the U.S. with a catalog in hand. The catalog likely had copies of about every style of acoustic and electric guitar ever popular in the U.S.

They would pop open a catalog and simply take orders. The distributors never even knew where the products were made, nor did most care. The only spec applied was the distributors brand.

During this same timeline, a few distributors decided to take matters a little closer to the factory and began specifying more than the "decal". My experience began in 1977 and it really wasn't until 1979, that I was given the challenge of changing the dynamics of the way that SLM handled the production, design and marketing.
