I am beginning to think this does not have a specific model # and never made it to production.

I'd say you can think that.

Sorry for being out of the forum for such a time...

This is a two-off made as a design sample. Guitar was made by Kasuga, the makers of the first MPC production runs and was done strictly as a "design" trial. The actual body shape was done by Kasuga staff in order to show their routing techniques. The laminate thru body neck was a specialy of theirs and later done by Matsumoku. Only 2 made to my knowledge. One was sent to SLM, the other remained in Nagoya at the MG Company or at the factory show-room. No significant memories of the overall outcome of the instrument. Sorry. Tom

Thanks for clarifying Tom, we thought it was a Sample. We would love to hear more about this (non - MPC) Laminated neck-through Outlaw Bass here:

That has got to be a one of a kind too!

That's a really cool bass, Robert. The German carve is an unusual feature for that era. Unfortunate that the instrument has been separated from it's history.

Speaking to that point, I've started to document some of my instruments. Simply writing down a history or journal of where I got it, how much I paid, and what work has been done. On some of the more unique pieces (SLM prototypes, etc.) it may be useful in the future to have that provenance on record.

Can't you imagine buying a vintage guitar or amp that comes with a binder showing notes and pictures from it's history? Records of repairs or mods, photos of the item in use at a gig. That would be cool, no? I've got a 1954 Gibson acoustic, and sometimes I just wonder about it's history. Who played it? Why did they sell it? Who did that amateur brace repair that I had to fix? What happened to the original tuners?

Thanks for all the inquiries and the research. Good to finally have some history on this bass. I really didn't know what I had come across but when I couldn't find anything on the internet about it, I thought I had something unique. Don't really know what the value of the bass is and how to go about knowing what it is worth. Must have been an interesting journey to get where it is at today.

Thanks again for all the help and posts. I hope the photos help for archival purposes and to fill in some history of the Electra Bass line.
