Actually they were made by both. Most were Kasuga. We had some of the Semi-thin production moved to Matsumoku but Kasuga was really good at the Semi-thin platform.

Remember, they were a really nice Acoustic maker and had a trading company relationship with the M.G. company (T. Kobayashi) who worked a lot with Yairi. Yairi-san and Aoyama-san (Kasuga President) were business associates via Kobayashi and information regarding acoustic dynamics was shared between them. This helped their Semi-thin development.

Matsumoku, though a maker of some fine Semis, was not generally known for their acoustic dynamics. Rainbow Westones and a few others were somewhat of an exception.

It's hard to tell the difference in manufactured quality of the 410s between Kasuga and Matsumoku. I can usually dig into the cavities and tell but it's even hard for me.

I still have the original mechanicals for the "X" series guitars on an old Apple laptop. Someday I'm going to try to get it booted up again. It may be fun to look at the original drawings!

Again Tom, our thanks for your input. Original mechanicals would be fun to dig into, what a treasure trove of information that could prove to be!!

I could not say if it is due to the different builders or just a difference in year of build, but there is one distinct visual variation between my wife's x410 and x810 that jumps out at you.

It is clear that the curvature of both the front and back on the x410 flows much more evenly out the the bound edge all around the periphery of the body, while the x810 has a flat section that extends about 1 to 1.5 cm from the binding to the curvatures. This is especially pronounced on the bouts of the body.

This is (imho) just one more reason to hold these instruments just a bit closer to one's heart. An individual guitar within a model family can potentially still have a unique history within it.

Hope that Apple still fires up for you. I know I will be interested in any minutia it may hold. :hyper:

I'm sorry man, if I offended any of you and I didn't mean to and I am truly sorry please forgive me. But yeah it does have a belly cut in the back and looks just like or did look just like the pic posted and those are the black open dimarzios that were in it when I got it except without the bigsby and that is a beatiful guitar by the way, man that thing don't look like it's ever been played, I can't do that gotta play um hard. Ivory crown keys and gold hardware is how it was when I got it so I guess it is a 2242 cool thanx fellas. I put schallers on it. it's been played hard and treated as such but still plays great. My son is using it now, Loves it and calls it big bertha cause she's heavy hahahaha pusscake haha and were currently transitioning back to gold hardware. Oh and where is this Electra Fest Thing going on?

Wow Tom, thats interesting info, I guess we'll be pulling the front pickup to findout where exactly it was made.
