Okay, this relates to my recent post in the Guitar Discussion thread entitled "Any current players still playing an Electra?"

I've been chatting on email with L.A. Jones -- very nice fellow -- about his "Frankensteined Electra." From what he's told me so far, it's more "customized" than "Frankensteined," at least to my way of thinking.

That is to say, it's an Electra guitar which retains essentially all of it's "Electra-ness" in that it is the original Electra body and neck and pickups, etc. He sent me a pic of it, so I've seen it.

He say's it's an LP copy with a set neck and the standard electronics: 2 tone knobs + 2 volume knobs + 3-way toggle switch. It has the MOP position markers as shown on, for example, the X220 Omega example on the models page. It was also originally a sunburst finish.

Given all that, I'm stumped as to what it might be since the only non-MPC set neck LP copies I know of are the Omegas, and they don't have the standard LP electronics. They have 2 control knobs, not 4. And they have the 2 flip switches. And they have the 5-way tone spectrum switch instead of the 3-way toggle.

So, anybody know what it might be?

Other than a non-catalog model, of course.

Am I missing something obvious?

Well, for the moment, I'll reply to my own post.

After more discussion with L.A., I think we've decided that his guitar is likely a modified Omega X220.

If you go to the page for that one -

http://www.rivercityamps.com/electrapag ... 923-034212

and scroll down to Mark's guitar, followed by Rusty's guitar, you'll see two examples of X220's that have been modified "back" to "standard LP setup."

Which is apparently how L.A.'s guitar was when he got it.

Only thing is, he tells me that the wiring was all original. I have no idea how THAT works, but maybe Rusty knows?

So unless somebody else has a better suggestion, I'm going with that take on things.

I seem to recall someone saying they'd set one up like an lp if you requested it... I'll try to find it. Whether it be a factory setup or a dealer setup I couldn't say, but I think the latter more likely.

Les Pauls really aren't anything to be desired, why ruin an Electra in the process?

It seems that after a certain point SLM got the idea that nobody liked 5-way switches and reverted several models to a traditional 3-way, even though it has fewer combinations. So it's very likely true that a 3-way is original to a guitar that the catalog lists as having a 5-way.
